I remember 20 years ago I was at a conference for my job and some higher ups got drunk and set off fire alarms and fire extinguishers in the hotel. Just a huge WTF?? Not only were they fired but also arrested.

That's why I have a firm rule of no more than one alcoholic drink at any work-related gathering. You DON'T want to accidentally say how you really feel about senior management when they are walking by behind you.

The company I used to work for held a gathering of newly acquired divisions at a Tulsa hotel some years ago. After the dinner, there was an open bar and many adult beverages were consumed.
I arrived late and asked about the tab as of 11:30 pm. It was $2300 and change.
I asked the bar keeper to announce last call and put the bar bill on my credit card.
The next day, I mentioned to my boss that my expenses would be a bit heavy and explained why.
He signed off and nothing was ever said...
