The Portland Police Bureau is expected to end the fiscal year in the red, overspending its $169 million budget by $3.42 million.

The largest drivers are nearly $2 million in Occupy Portland policing costs; more retirements (26 so far this fiscal year), bringing larger sick leave and vacation payouts; and cash payouts to officers for earned holiday compensatory time.

As a result, the bureau this spring has asked for additional one-time funds to plug the budget hole.

Fewer police on patrol will help “Keep Portland Weird,” as their popular bumper sticker demands. So be it.

Any pending legal judgements should be placed as a debt upon the public employee union(s).

The state must sue the unions to recoup costs of keeping rotten apples.

It sounds like cuts do need to be made, given what the Portland police spent their money on recently:

Perhaps they should abandon their programs that try to make it a hate crime every time a gay guy in a bar gets busted in the chops for trying to put the make on a straight guy. Takes a lot of manpower to manufacture “evidence”.

How to keep police costs down:

1) When you catch a chronic offender committing a crime, take the extra effort to ensure he gets convicted of the crime, rather than being out in a month on a plea bargain. More thugs in jail means you need fewer cops on the street.

2) Pass Stand Your Ground in Oregon. More thugs in the grave eans you need fewer cops on the street.

Fire many of the Donut Eaters, chop the pensions (trolls under the bridges will appreciate more police presence), and buy a small donut shop to be just for Portland’s Finest. The huge increase in donut consumption will, in the long run result in lower medical costs.

An extra $2 million for OWSer policing? And there’s more to come in 2012, no doubt. These bastards are intentionally bankrupting our PDs and cities.

also, the city has a give away to the cops....sign up for a health screening and get several hundred dollars extra just for signing your name...no gym assignments..no weight loss...no bp decrease...nothing...just sign...

and the Portland area has had TWO black flash mobs the last few days...one done proudly at a downtown mall....

no arrests of course...

then there was the 57 yro white man beaten up by several black yutes on the MAX train....

yes, Portland really needed to provide for those occupiers didn't they?.....

Sounds like it’s time, in Portland, to give a little back to the community. If you get my drift.,
