US: Strike on N. Korea Possible if Nuclear Test Held

The commander of the U.S. Pacific Command says the U.S. may launch a surgical strike against missile bases and nuclear test sites in North Korea if it conducts a third nuclear test.

Admiral Samuel Locklear explained the U.S.'s position on Tuesday at a meeting with South Korean defense journalists at the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC) in Seoul.

Locklear said Washington is closely watching the North in relation to the possibility of a third nuclear test, adding the U.S. and South Korea are looking at all options including a surgical strike.

Regarding the North’s new long-range ballistic missile unveiled on Sunday, Locklear said the U.S. will closely monitor the North’s missile development in cooperation with South Korea and other allies.

The commander added that the U.S. will maintain its military presence of about 28-thousand-500 troops in South Korea.

If this were to happen the response would immediately be a torrent of missiles raining down on Seoul which is only about 32 miles south of the border.
But it would be a remarkable wag the dog moment for obammy about Oct. 15th. And NOTHING out of this marxist narcissist would surprise me./

Or South Korea, which could/would lose a quarter of its population as a consequence?

C'mon now, this is all craziness. We KNOW that North Korea became our new 'Partner for Peace' in the far east after President George W. Bush took Pyongyang OFF the list of terrorist supporting nations in late 2008, and by choosing the path of diplomacy with the famous 'Six Party Talks', North Korea dismantled their nuclear program and became a responsible member of the community of nations. And by NOT listening to those warmongers Cheney and Bolton (arguing for military action both against North Korea AND Iran), George W. Bush was able to pave the way for the late Dear Leader and our current Dear Reader to let the comradely friendship between our two nations blossom.

Pardon me, I must lay down as I am about to swoon.

(I sure-TF hope I don't need a 'sarc' tag on this)

I honestly couldn’t see this administration attacking NK even if it sank one of our aircraft carriers.

It's our 20,000 troops that disturbs me....60 years later.

I know we have troops all over the world...but it seems that it was a war that should have been finished. North Korea is a mess and south Korea is flourishing.

No, but they sure would be “outraged”. This would be “not acceptable”, and they would strongly “condemn” them. That would put them in their place.

The Korean War was never ended, there is an armistace. It was a UN action, thank you President Truman for subverting us to this second class status. So, would not the UN now have to approve a restart of a shooting war? Unless NK actually did something directly against the US, alone, where is our authority to in effect declare war upon them regardless of what they did. Why, we never even blew them off the planet after the Pueblo incident of the 60s wherein we had the right to wipe them out IMO.

This situation is like having a child and allowing him/her to do whatever they want for much of their lives. Then, suddenly bringing down the rod of correction and expecting an instant end to unruliness.

LMAO!

Very doubtful, at least until it is closer to the election.

Ordinarily the Media would be collectively wetting their pants over talk like this. I guess they aren’t because Obama doesn’t want to talk about it. And he doesn’t want to talk about it because it doesn’t fit in with his re-election strategy — which we see involves outraged minorities.

Won’t happen. A missile could hit the coast of California and I’m not entirely sure we’d do anything besides “strongly condemn” and “enforce stronger sanctions and isolation”.

Not really much difference, given their cooperation on missile and nuclear technology.
