While Chips Moman was producing in Memphis, Wayne Carson was writing songs in Springfield, MO.

Wayne Carson Thompson used all three names as a song writing credit, but preferred to go by Wayne Carson when he performed. Wayne had a distinguished country music lineage as the child of Odie and Olivia Thompson, better known as the musical act “Shorty and Sue” back in the days of staff musicians playing live music on the radio.

Wayne hit pay dirt in 1966 when Chet Atkins took a shine to a song of his and pitched it to Eddy Arnold. Wayne was to tell this story many times over beers at Wally’s Clubhouse.

”Eddy said, ‘I love the song, but it needs another verse.’ So I said, ‘Well, the third verse goes like this’, and I just wrote it right there over the phone!”

Eddy Arnold: “Somebody Like Me”

This is a brilliant and unconventional video.
