New EPA Guidlines for Fracking
Enviromental Protection Agency ^ | 4/18/2012 | Enviromental Protection Agency

WASHINGTON – In response to a court deadline, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized standards to reduce harmful air pollution associated with oil and natural gas production. The updated standards, required by the Clean Air Act, were informed by the important feedback from a range of stakeholders including the public, public health groups, states and industry. As a result, the final standards reduce implementation costs while also ensuring they are achievable and can be met by relying on proven, cost-effective technologies as well as processes already in use at approximately half of the fractured natural gas wells in the United States. These technologies will not only reduce 95 percent of the harmful emissions from these wells that contribute to smog and lead to health impacts, they will also enable companies to collect additional natural gas that can be sold. Natural gas is a key component of the nation’s clean energy future and the standards released today make sure that we can continue to expand production of this important domestic resource while reducing impacts to public health, and most importantly builds on steps already being taken by industry leaders.

Like Reagan said of the government: if it moves, tax it, if it stillmoves regulate it... Luckily, according to the report, more than half of the wells already meet the new standards.

It sounds good, until you consider who is saying it—Obama’s EPA.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I think we’d better wait until some more reliable sources weigh in on this.

Frack the EPA! Where the hell do they get their authority to tell Americans what they can and cannot do? We’ve got to do something about this out of control fascist government in November.

The EPA needs to be dismantled and buried deep in the ground. It is evil and can not be believed.

My wife and I don’t need the EPA to tell us how to frack, thank you.

...while reducing impacts to public health

What air pollution is caused by drilling? Diesel engines to run the drills for a few weeks? That is microscopic compared to burning gas instead of coals. Once again, the EPA proves itself totally insane.

It is time to ABOLISH the EPA, DOE, and the National Labor relations Board.

Let me get this straight. The EPA in all its enginuity and expertise in this brand new technology has come up with a way to "collect additional natural gas that can be sold?"

Next their going to tell us that Obamacare will reduce the national debt.

It's all microscopic when you compare the amount of CO2 LIFE produces. Everything that breaths or dies releases CO2 from dust mites to blue whales. And that's the point that makes the whole MMGW BS. The infinitesimal amount of CO2 that mankind puts in the air as a percentage of the volume of the atmosphere that creates the "greenhouse effect" can barely be measured (in those terms).

Reducing our CO2 emissions to cool the planet (or prevent it from warming) is like lowering the sea level using a 5 gallon bucket and freezers.

It’s simple. Every step along the way of oil and gas production should shut down for as long as it takes for the governemnt to eliminate the EPA. I’d give them one week.

I’d like to know what the implementation cost will be. I’d say its a ploy to keep the price of natural gas high if I had to make a bet.

Well (no pun intended) they can use all that spare natural gas for heating, laundry and BBQ big steaks for all the oilfield workers in North Dakota.
