WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) Interstate 80 was shut down between West Sacramento and Davis for six hours as police searched for an armed suspect who shot at officers after a carjacking early Friday morning, clogging freeways throughout the region, then is believed to have assaulted a church pastor and stolen a second truck.
Friday evening Sacramento Sheriffs Deputy cornered on the suspect in an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Ethan Way in the Arden Arcade area. Officers opened fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. photo UPDATE: West Sacramento Shooting Suspect Dead
The incident began just before 6 a.m., when West Sacramento police responded to B&R Head and Block Repair in the 400 block of Harbor Boulevard after getting several calls of a shooting.
Employees of the machine repair shop arrived to open the business and apparently interrupted a burglary in progress, police said. Shots were fired but no one was hit. The suspect then stole a car and then a truck at gunpoint and fled before crashing the truck on the Yolo Causeway and running away on foot. The manhunt ensued for a suspect described as a white male in his 20s with medium length brown hair wearing a brown or black trench coat.

1. Perp is dead
2. Perp is alleged to have stolen a shotgun at the first point of crime...a business.
3. A "Suspect" was arrested as he and his son got out of a similar pick-up...at gunpoint. They also SEARCHED HIS HOUSE before he was released as innocent and not involved.
Perp carjacked 3 vehicles, shut down I-80 for over 6 hours, put 4 helocopters in the air and drew out every SWAT team in a 100 mile radius.
He even hot-wired a tractor in his grand escape.
He injured nobody.
I don't think you can know that. What if someone in that traffic stoppage was having a stroke or heart attack due to high blood pressure, etc.?
I heard that hit a bird watcher in the head and stole his car, put the guy in the hospital.
This was a terrible day to have to go through the Sacramento and Yolo counties. Unimaginable long lines of trucks and cars on all major roadways and through cities. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lot of criticism along with some serious troubles caused by something centered in downtown Sacramento. It might be a lesson in how vulnerable transportation in such a wide area is to fluke conditions or very very bad enforcement calls.
Explain your statement? The cops shot and killed a scumbag who car-jacked a couple of people and cracked one of the victims on the head. He also shot at police.
The “Suspect” who, along with his son, was arrested at gunpoint but was released: Did he look like the perp? What was the police supposted to do?
And lastly: if a private citizen shot this person, would you still be outraged or would you be praising him/her as a hero and a example of why we need CCW laws
How will we know when it you or me who has been hunted down and killed?
Well, if you plan on carjacking, assault and shooting at police, then it will be soon.
I,on the other hand, dont plan on doing any of those things.
This perp’s death sentence will not be vacated.
Yikes, the snarled traffic must've been horrible. I used to drive across the Yolo Causeway every day on the way to work. I would've hated to have been caught up in that mess and had to have sat there for six hours. Would much rather have taken my chances with an armed desperado commandeering my truck while I sped along the freeway at 70mph. Typical overreaction by the authorities, which has been going on long before 9/11... "Oh, we'll inconvenience hundreds of thousands of people for the better part of a [working] day, no problemo." Glad I moved.
If I am being run to ground by Obamathugs for being a patriot I would probably do most anything.
Fer instance, the story doesn’t start with, “After stealing $1.6 Billion the perp then began a crime spree while running from authorities to include carjacking, shooting at police, etc.”. No that guy ain’t running. Months later he is still out bundling $500,000 for Zero.
This poor slob exchanges gunfire with the law for reasons not mentioned. For people who don’t believe anything else in the media we sure jump to conclusions pretty quickly with stories like this, IMHO.
Good God...is this goona lead to yet another Al Sharpton moment?
Oh the loss! One less Obama voter.
It's a victimless crime!
Explain my statement? To whom? Those who cannot understand English?
The point was not that "a suspect" was arrested because he drove a pick-up that looked like what the perp carjacked...the point is the police took the liberty of searching his house.
There is no justification for that. None.
As for a private citizen shooting the wrong guy...would I be outraged? I don't get emotional about such things, but I would expect the wheels of justice to put him in the electric chair.
They had the bridge closed for over 3 hours before anyone had the guts to go under it and see if he was still there.
A win/win situation.
