Earth Day is a Celebration of Misery and Death Yahoo! Contributor Network By Mark Whittington | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 2 hrs 47 mins ago

COMMENTARY | Today is Earth Day, the annual bacchanalia of self abuse invented by the environmental movement to remind everyone that the human race is a pestilence upon this planet. It is a celebration by the self righteous for the hysterical.

Robert Zubrin, writing for the Washington Times, points out the inconvenient truth of the carnage wrought in the name of the environment, the better to contain that cancer known as humanity. The death toll is in the hundreds of millions, including infanticide conducted on behalf of population control in China and preventable deaths from malaria in the Third World thanks to the banning of DDT.

The desire for clean air and water is being used by professional agitators to stop projects that would provide energy and natural resources, as Brian McGraw points out in the Daily Caller. President Barack Obama's resistance to the Keystone XL pipeline is just one battle in this constant war of environmental hysterics against human progress.

The Endangered Species Act has been used to stop development and, in the case of California's Central Valley, to create a desert where once was fertile farmland because of something called the delta smelt. Former Alaska Gov Sarah Palin sarcastically suggested that human lives were being destroyed for the sake of bait.

Here is a modest proposal. Let's cancel Earth Day. Environmentalism has been used to commit too many atrocities to be a cause to be celebrated. If anything, Earth Day should be a day of mourning and reflection for all the lives that hugging the planet has taken and snuffed out.

Interesting tidbit:

Ira Einhorn was granted bail..... ... His attorney, former district attorney and soon-to-be.... "U.S. Senator Arlen Specter",...had engineered a miracle.

Go figure that! HA!

Laura Bush “celebrated” Earth Day in Dallas. Gave a big speech about it.

And that makes me very sad, as I particularly am fond of Laura Bush. Still, she has no right to be ignorant about watermelons, or their intentions, she is way too intelligent and has way more access to the truth than a useful idiot.

My dad was harassed by the EPA a couple times.

The last time the agent showed up to whine about a “stream” that’s been defunct for over a hundred years but is still on their ‘map’, dad came out of his hunting cabin to meet him whilst carrying a .308.

Never saw the guy again.

Guess that stream wasn’t really a very important stream, after all.

I want to kill the environment.

Objectively speaking, it is the Environment's job to kill you, and if you observe, it has been 100% successful so far. Every human that has gone up against it has been defeated and killed in the long run.

You would be foolish to protect that which intends to kill you and your wife and children.

This is why I tend to be unconcerned about dead Communists, dead mosquitoes, or the people who prefer them alive.

Was there a reason you didn’t want to confront him? Clergymen should understand that stuff has no place in a house of God. I don’t know why you sat still for it.

Let's cancel Earth Day.

This pagan/marxist observance needs to be struck from our culture...

I did give my pastor a verbal reprimand after he incorporated college football into one of his services...my wife and I never returned. He discovered that not every resident of Tennessee was a ‘Vols’ fan...

Earth Day is also celebrated in Russia by the KPRF... It is actually “Lenin’s Birthday” there. The first Earth Day was celebrated on Lenin’s 100th birthday.

I whispered to my husband, “I just may leave” when he announced the topic at the beginning of Mass and received a glare from the couple in front of us. A most unfriendly glare. I’m still recovering from a slip and fall on the ice in Jan and just did not feel up to a confrontation. But, then he went on and on. I was just disgusted and asked for the car keys and left immediately after Mass. My husband did not know what was wrong.

I love the earth as much as anyone and have practiced conservation and recycling all my life. However, Earth Day is an entirely different matter and has been twisted into something I doubt St. Francis would recognize. I may send this priest a letter.

This priest is a “guest” priest who helps out on Sundays — a weekend assistent. He’s not really part of this parish. In fact, this is the most coherent sermon I’ve ever heard come out of him.

Yeah, I always thought it Arlen Specter’s involvement was an interesting aside.

Interesting that Francis of Assissi is often embraced by enviros for his “Brother Sun, Sister Moon” approach.

I read his Wiki bio.

It says there that Einhorn's claim to have been involved in the Earth Day founding is completely untrue.

But I tend to think some lying Wiki editor has been at work.
