There is NO proof that this lightbulb can go for 20 years. There is NO proof that this lightbulb can generate the light as advertised. There IS proof that the US Taxpayers have been and are going to continue to pay for this crap.

If it’s made in China, it’ll fry itself in two years, tops.

I believe that there is a light-bulb in a California fire House that has been lit for over 100 years. The secret is that it has a very thick carbon thread filament.
How long these things will last? Well I have had at least one LED flashlight that has died after only being used a few times. Cause of death was the electronic components not the LED itself.

Yup and its why I get irritated when I see FReepers congratulating themselves for the failure of the great green scam. Its still going on even if no one believes it.

"The contest stipulated that the winning bulb be sold for $22 in its first year on the market.
"In that context, the $60 price tag has raised some eyebrows. Ed Crawford, the head of Philips' U.S. lighting division, said it was always part of the plan to have utility rebates bring the price down to the $22 range.
Hey there you go, promise you can do it for $22, as long as the taxpayer pays twice that much.

The magically assign a lifespan based upon the number if years it would take for it to make sense. Its a total scam. Or government has become our enemy.
The 10 million the government spent in this contest was also wasted. If it was such a great idea,,, a corporation would have happy done the research.

There are plenty of LEDs that are 30+ years old that still work just fine.

We will never know if this bulb can last 20 years since it was just developed recently. The 10 year claim was made about the CFL and so far I have had to replace all 15 of mine within 3 years of getting them.
