You guys are all right about Mitterrand. Except he was no pinko- he was RED!
This article is a total hit piece on President Sarkozy, full of fake statistics and flat out lies. A love song to Marine Le Pen somehow seems the wrong tone to take. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The “huge” “unprecedented” victory of Hollande over Sarko touted in the leftist MSM press in France, Europe and the US is a whopping 1.45%
The final vote count is:
Hollande 28.63 %
Sarkozy 27.18 %
Le Pen   17.90 %
Mélenchon 11.11%
Bayrou     9.13 %

These are the official final numbers, not the estimations in this and other articles.
As for Mitterrand, you are right about Rwanda. He is also responsible for bringing in all those immigrants from former French colonies in N Africa to work as cheap labor, and more importantly, to vote Socialist.
Now France is overwhelmed, with a stagnating economy, high unemployment, and a huge welfare state that Sarko has been trying to downsize for five years.

I can't imagine what kind of "solution" the communists have for France's economic disaster... Is the French population simply deluded?

I’m starting to see the big picture. The 1.45% probably means very little but apparently the votes given to Mélenchon in the first round are sure to go to Hollande in the second. The Le Pen votes are threatening to stay home from what I’ve read. Bayrou - I don’t know where that fits into the equation. But the dire predictions for Sarkozy are more based on who gets the Le Pen, Mélenchon, and Bayrou votes more than they are based on the 1.45% difference, je crois.

Cincinna, could you please give us your analysis of the election results and how the second round might turn out?

And in a runoff between Sarko and Hollande, enough of Le Pen's voters will decline to just stay home to put Sarko over the top.

Sarko will then be on notice that he better get a handle on North African immigration, or his days are numbered. The native french understand that there is no way to have both welfare for immigrants and also pay the pensions of the native French.
