It Was the Power, Stupid!

In my dumber days, between 2001-2008, I used to wonder why the Left relentlessly hammered the war on terror (e.g., renditions, tribunals, predators, preventative detention, Patriot Act, intercepts, wiretaps, Guantanamo Bay) when these measures had not only proven quite useful in preventing another 9/11-like attack, but had been sanctioned by both the Congress and the courts. In those ancient times, I was not as cynical as I am now. So I assumed that Harold Koh and MoveOn.org, though mistaken, were worried about civil liberties, or measures that they felt were both illegal and without utility.

But, of course, the Obama (who attacked each and every element of the war on terror as a legislator and senator) Left never had any principled objection at all. Instead, whatever Bush was for, they were in Pavlovian fashion against. I can say that without a charge of cynicism, because after January 2009, Obama embraced or expanded every Bush-Cheney protocol that he inherited. In response, the anti-war Left simply kept silent, or indeed vanished, or went to work extending the anti-terrorism agenda. Guantanamo Bay, in other words, was a national sin until the mid-morning of January 20, 2009.

For leftist ideology to gain acceptance, an alternate reality must be created and maintained. History must be revised and reason must be trumped by emotion-based beliefs. The methodology involves ignoring and explaining away consequences. The media, the education establishment and minions in government have gotten the job done in the past, but the ruse is beginning to unravel.

The problem the left has is that their ideas have now left bumper stickers for codified law, and consequences are becoming glaringly apparent. These consequences are easiest to see in the economy.

This is the fourth “recovery summer” and this time people don't need to experience it to know what's coming. What Americans have been told they were seeing and what they were seeing are two different realities-one created for them and one actual reality they can see. They instinctively sense now they've been lied to, perhaps worse they sense the deliberate ruse, and that's the problem Obama and the rest have in the 2012 election.

Despite the poor Republican nominee, despite the voter fraud and the protection money/donations the Democrats will garner, the electoral bludgeoning that's coming will be the long-deserved comeuppance the left has earned.

In order to understand your average liberal sheeperal, (not the real communists at the top who use the sheeperals)

all you have to understand is that they are continually trying to justify the lie of “I’m a good person”.

Good analysis. Seems to me, moreover, that it applies also to the small band of FReepers who are now telling us that a Romney presidency would be worse than four more years of the Obama administration.
