WASHINGTON (AP) — Newt Gingrich's daughter says the former House speaker will "reassess" his campaign after the votes are tallied in Delaware, potentially setting the stage for his exit from the Republican presidential race.

Jackie Gingrich Cushman said Tuesday that her father's campaign has slimmed down but is still winning over voters who aren't yet sold on Mitt Romney, who has effectively clinched the GOP presidential nomination.

Despite trailing Romney in convention delegates and fundraising, Gingrich has vowed to campaign until the party's late-summer convention in Florida.

Gingrich is carrying more than $4.3 million in debt and has been spending more money than he is taking in.

"You mean in order to guarantee that the richest candidate wins all the time?"

Not in a runoff. The best Conservative merely needs to make it to #2, then consolidate the Conservative vote. Project that scenario onto 2012, and this thread could be about Gingrich announcing his VP choice...

Whether intentional or not, this news item is geared to dissuade American voters, in these primary States today, from voting for Gingrich.

I don't think so. I don't care if Newt isn't even in this anymore. He and Santorum are still on ballots and available for the non Milt vote. I will be voting non Milt shortly here. If anything, I think this talk pushes down Milt voters. Why bother to vote, when your guy has this "sewed up"?

That’s why we need a National Primary Day.

Yea, but if we did that how in the hell could the GOPe manipulate the selection?

Dear Newt,

Please announce:

1. That your name will remain on all ballots in all states.

2. That you strongly encourage the voters to rock the establishment, rock the vote, and vote non-romney.

3. That especially those states at the end of the process should register a protest that the GOP-establishment thinks their out-of-control attack ads and media management have reduced everyone’s choices to zero. ROCK THAT ARROGANCE and STICK IT TO ‘EM! Vote on your ballot ANYTHING BUT ROMNEY!

“That’s why we need a National Primary Day.”

If we had a national primary day, the candidate with the most money would likely win quite easily, since grassroots candidates wouldn’t be able to concentrate on winning Iowa, NH or SC and then building upon that momentum to raise money and campaign in other states. I think it would be fairer if different states got to go first once in a while, but we should maintain a system in which primaries are a week or so apart.

You are correct; ordinary primary voters won’t hear it from this UK outlet. But I understood this link was to be typical of what the news media in general are reporting today, not an isolated hidden news tidbit.

My mistake, I suppose, but is it one worthy of condescension...? Well, you for one thought so.

First of all, the Primary Season is way too long, which of course benefits the candidates with the most money.

I like the idea of breaking it out into maybe 3 primary days, spread out over one month. Each of the days has a mix of small states/large states, so that the number of electoral votes on each day is roughly the same.......after each one, the bottom one or two candidates must drop out.

A nothing article is right.

The campaign has already indicated it would reassess after Delaware. I read about that earlier and not from anything the daughter said.

This headline makes it sound like this reassessment will lead to a drop out, and doesn’t even mention it happens AFTER Delaware, and people haven’t even voted yet.

But we have people here claiming it’s all innocent and pure as the wind drive snow.

but is still winning over voters who aren't yet sold on Mitt Romney,

In other words those who haven't been deceived, yet, by the evil liar. Those who have been - belong to evil, as it keeps a firm grasp on 'it's accomplishments'. Forever tainted with selling America and our God-given rights to evil.

Keep fighting Newt - God knows ALL and your fight FOR America in spite of satan's tools of deception, attacks and lack of support - which have been continually in your path. Win/lose/draw - you fought the good fight of faith FOR America. He knows His own and not those who claim Him yet fight against Him.

IMO, if I didn’t hear it from the Gingrichs it’s not true. The last thing we HEARD from Newt is he is going all the way. This has the evil one’s hand print on it as it’s style - yet freepers continually do mitt’s dirty work - when THEY KNOW NEWT said he is going all the way! Some really sold their soul to evil and proud to show the world they have.

Here’s the other side of that.

Never believe such leftist orgs. as the AP and the Guardian are pure in their intent against conservative Republicans.

You would lose on a bet, if assuming that nonsense.

They twisted the headline to imply he’s dropping out soon, no matter what any voter does. That’s clear distortion with intent.

Now whether it succeeds in suppressing his vote or not remains to be seen. Its degreee of success or failure doesn’t have diddly squat to do with their intention.

As for it actually helping Romney because people think why bother voting, Romney has it in the bag, what is “it”? Please define “it”.

Romney can be stopped from a first ballot victory in Tampa, if he can’t corral enought delegates, be they for Gingrich or Ron Paul or whatever Santorum does with his now he’s suspended.

Newt has announced that’s what his goal is. He knows he isn’t going to stop Romney from being the overwhelming, clear frontrunner. He’s going for deadlocking on the first ballot.

But if he drops out, that means he fails either bc not enough delegates or runs out of money or whatever.

You don’t know how many Romneybots that causes not to bother voting vs how many Newtonians it causes not to bother.

Because Romney is going to clean up in these primaries, and Newt has no way to catch up, but that’s not the issue.

So it’s all muddled in a lot of people’s minds and Newt wants to be clear what he’s trying to do, to get as many votes and delegates as he can.

So here comes these leftist orgs. distorting a story by twisting the headline.

And you fall for a comment that says oh no, don’t believe it hurts Newt, believe it hurts Romney.

I wouldn’t fall for it, on a bet.

I’ve been saying this for years. How do we make this happen. Wringing our hands at this point in the game is pointless. We need ONE conservative candidate to run against the GOPe candidate - if we did, we’d have a strong conservative winner every time!

I think we need a Conservative Primary, so that we all get behind ONE candidate who will run against the GOP establishment candidate for the GOP nomination.

We can’t beat a McCain or Romney if we are splitting our vote between 3-5 conservatives. We did the same thing in 2008 as we did this year and it does not work.

If there were 5 conservatives running against GHW Bush in 1980, there would have been no Reagan. Bush would have walked away with it just as Romney is doing.

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Hadn’t considered that angle.

Ever consider the angle that Santorum hands over his wins to Romney? And it will NEVER happen with Newt. Santorum and mitt both attacked Newt to keep Newt down - Newt didn't have the money to counterattack those ads. So don't think a Rick vote is a non Mitt - their is a reason he hasn't through his support behind anyone yet - he's doing it for the team. Just say you weren't warned.

Newt has no money. He has little choice but to drop out — or go deeper in debt.

The Tea Party could have its own primaries prior to the GOP primaries.

Then the GOP primaries would have had ONE strong and tested conservative candidate on the ballot against Romney, Huntsman and Gary Johnson who would be splitting the GOP e vote three ways.
