WASHINGTON (AP) — Newt Gingrich's daughter says the former House speaker will "reassess" his campaign after the votes are tallied in Delaware, potentially setting the stage for his exit from the Republican presidential race.

Jackie Gingrich Cushman said Tuesday that her father's campaign has slimmed down but is still winning over voters who aren't yet sold on Mitt Romney, who has effectively clinched the GOP presidential nomination.

Despite trailing Romney in convention delegates and fundraising, Gingrich has vowed to campaign until the party's late-summer convention in Florida.

Gingrich is carrying more than $4.3 million in debt and has been spending more money than he is taking in.

It really P*sses me off when candidates drop out before all the states get to vote.

True, but there comes a point at which no money is coming in, and staff, no matter how much smaller over time, still have to be paid.

That’s why we need a National Primary Day.

Exactly. The way it is now, it just allows the different political machines the ability to take any true popular choices and bleed them dry.

Newt himself is the proper source for understanding what he’s doing, not twisted headlines by leftist news orgs.

A “National Primary Day” would mean that the person with the most money has the advantage. How does a small guy with little compete in all 50 states at once against a well connected, well funded, well staffed candidate like Romney?

No to national primary day.
Yes to a GOP nomination process that is 60 days or so in length (roughly 5-6 states every week) from first vote to last vote. This way a campaign can have some time to get their message out by region/states.
A national primary will mean they will only campaign in key swing states which is no good.
As it stands now the race is over before the last half of the states get a chance and nomination. The three largest states, CA, TX and NY have not even had a say.

“(1)Ever consider the angle that Santorum hands over his wins to Romney? And it will NEVER happen with Newt. (2)Santorum and mitt both attacked Newt to keep Newt down - Newt didn’t have the money to counterattack those ads. (3)So don’t think a Rick vote is a non Mitt vote - there is a reason he hasn’t thrown his support behind anyone yet - he’s doing it for the team. Just remember you were warned.”

1. Yes, from the git-go.
2. Yes, that happened.
3. Already voted for Newt in SC primary. Don’t understand the rest of point 3. But thanks for warning us, I think.

Ever consider the angle that Santorum hands over his wins to Romney? And it will NEVER happen with Newt.

That is based in nothing more that your warped view of things. Newt is the guy running around to every Sunday morning news show he could kissing Milts butt. Calling him the eventual nominee, saying he hopes he can influence him and going on strange diatribe about how they are both grandfathers. Just watch Newt Easter Sunday on Face the Nation for proof. Santorum, on the other hand, bowed out and walked away from even a hint at supporting Romney in the General even though the GOP pressure for an endorsement was extremely high. I'll take Santorum over Newt on the topic of supporting Milt.

Just remember. You were warned.

How can they compete with Romney now, under the current system?

IMO, our problem is that we are divided, between different conservative candidates instead of getting behind one conservative.

Were any of them perfect? No. But we need to admit that our strategy of splitting our vote between several conservatives only hands the nomination to a Romney or McCain.

One of the key ingredients in Reagan’s 80 victory was that there were not 6 conservatives on the primary ballot. There was only ONE.

... not arguing with you. Just frustrated, again.

Cheers,

“Since Santorum dropped out, they stopped conducting primary polls. Over at RealClearPolitics I’ve seen nothing for weeks. It’s just part of the media narrative that the rest of our votes just don’t matter.”

Well, it’s a free market right? Who’s stopping you from starting your own polling firm and conducting polls?

I’m not really making fun of you, just ridiculing some simplistic thinking vis-a-vis the economy.

With Newt out the race is OFFICIALLY over, even though it has truly been over for several weeks now. Romney is not my choice, but I will put his sign in my yard and his bumper sticker on my car. This is NOT the election for Conservatives to stay home. If you think there isn’t a difference between Romney and Obama you could not be more wrong.

You are exactly correct. From the time this started people around here were sold on someone who wasn’t running. They didn’t know that until too late. They had already been trashing anyone that wasn’t that candidate in order to clear the way for that candidate.

If it wasn’t for that, you may have seen folks come together on a candidate.

So...here we are.. it is a shame.

This is a nation of states.

That’s how it was founded. On purpose.

Elections themselves are state by state. Candidates have to win states, then states vote their electoral votes and the winner is elected.

Sure the system has been screwed up by stupid party rules.

But the fix is NOT to make it all about some speeches on television.

They have to get out with the people, in states and communities, and that’s a critical element.
