Smith Gets GOP Nod in Jammed Senate Race (Smackdown of Pennsylvania GOP-e by TEA Partier)

Armstrong County coal entrepreneur Tom Smith broke away from a crowded field of contenders on Tuesday to win the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and the opportunity to take on incumbent Sen. Bob Casey Jr.

Smith, 64, of Plumcreek won 42 percent of the vote with 65 percent of precincts reporting, preliminary results showed.

"This election will be about Sen. Casey's record. In his six years in the Senate, Casey has been President Obama's most trusted ally in massively expanding government, ballooning the debt and eroding our freedoms," Smith said. "A half-million unemployed Pennsylvanians deserve a senator with the real world, private-sector experience to get our economy back on track."

Republican leaders called for party unity after a bruising primary in which Smith and other candidates tried to appear the most conservative.

"It is time for all Republicans across the state to put the primary race behind them ... to beat Bob Casey," said Tim Burns, 44, of Eighty Four, who sought the Republican Senate nomination until losing the state committee endorsement in January.

I wrote to him often and once he took two months to answer, I had even forgotten what I wrote about to him!!!

Same here - only his reply was a mere regurgitation of the same boiler-plate policy points I had directly refuted. He never answers the points made or the questions asked. Casey is a waste of cardboard!!

"we rural Somerset County Americans are really tired of Obama,"

Maybe you are fellow Freeper, but your customers (if you are a haircutter) have been complete jerks with Murtha for years.
BTW, is that Boliver Catholic Church still there?
A St. V priest took us there to say mass one day when I was an alter boy.

only a very small portion of Somerset votes in the old Murtha district...he got his votes from Johnstown....

In deed I was a haircutter, for 42 years and loved every day of it..they were good old days, have been retired now for 10 yrs. and still miss it..have a daughter who is also a hairdresser, and many great friends so we get together and ‘play beauty shop’ both of my kids could give a great hair cut by the time they entered their teens...daughter was ready to hit the floor day one when she went to beauty school, of course you must earn the hours first.. LOVED THOSE FUN DAYS...I finished my career with 17 years in nursing homes, hospitals and funeral homes...

and I bet you were a great Alter boy, wonderful training for your adult life..not familiar with the Boliver Catholic church but will now check it out...
