Deflecting a potential media attack line talking point is COMMON SENSE, folks.
The accepted media meme now is that anyone who dares to question Obama’s Christianity is a “Fringe Nutcase”.
He is running against one of the most RADICAL and corrupt Socialists in Congress. Keep it focused on the ISSUES, and don’t play in to Democrat/MediaMatters/MSNBC talking points.
SMART MOVE, IMHO.
I agree completely. Whether or not he genuinely believes that Obama is something that any real Christian would recognize as a Christian, his comments are politically useful in keeping the media from portraying him as a fringe nutcase. Personally, I am skeptical on Obama's claims that he was born in Hawaii, that he is a Christian, and that he is not a socialist. However, if I was running for office, I would at least pretend to believe those claims. I might argue (as Joe's tone does in the letter) that Obama's actions are surprising for someone who is Christian and not communist, but I wouldn't put much time into arguing about what label applies to the thug in our White House. It's far better to focus on issues and on the outcomes of each of Obama's horrendous policies.
I don't think so, and the responses you see to Joe's comment on this thread are evidence of that.
The smart thing would have been to say, "I don't know about Obama's religion. You'll have to ask him about that.
I agree with you - If he was asked a question that would have seen him portrayed as a igonrant blue collar slob if he answered it straight then yes it just puts that issue to rest and lets him focus on where Obama is wrong politically and fiscally etc.
Mel
I agree. Does Joe want to spend the next six months taking about Obama’s religious faith or lack of it? No.
People are not going to pull the lever for him based on Obama’s religious beliefs. He is smart to put this issue behind him and to move forward.
