Rubio Praises U.N., World Bank, IMF for Not Asserting ‘Narrow American Interests’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who was elected to his first term with help from the Tea Party in 2010 and who is sometimes cited as a potential GOP vice presidential pick, lauded the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for following their respective visions instead of asserting “narrow American interests” in a speech today on U.S. foreign policy.

In remarks at the liberal Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., Rubio sketched the advances made globally since the end of World War II as a result of America’s leadership.

“The purpose of the institutions we established, from the United Nations to the World Bank and the IMF was to spread peace and prosperity, not to assert narrow American interests,” said Sen. Rubio.

[...]

In his initial remarks, Sen. Rubio sought to separate himself from some conservatives in the Senate on foreign policy, saying that until recently the general view was that American conservatism “believed in a robust and muscular foreign policy,” citing Presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. talbott

“But when I arrived in the Senate last year, I found that some of the traditional sides in the foreign policy debate had shifted,” said Rubio. “On the one hand I found liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans working together to advocate our withdrawal from Afghanistan or staying out of Libya. On the other hand, I found myself partnering with Democrats … on a more forceful foreign policy.”

“So I recently joked, the other day, that today in the U.S. Senate, on foreign policy, the further you move to the right, the likelier you are to move to the left,” said Rubio.

7 of the 10 official candidates for the nomination had substantial histories as Democrats ~ as public officials, as donors, as workers, as,.....,

That's your first definition of RINO. We don't even need to address the finer subtleties that eek over into ideological differences ~ we got a problem with Republicans. We are running short!

You might want to broaden your definition a little, you just classified Ronald Reagan as a RINO.

Marco gave a really magnificent speech and made the case for Republicans/conservatives that Obama's a failure.

Since Obama's stated goal is to "Fundamentally Transform the United States of America", why on Earth would a true patriot be disappointed if he...failed? (he hasn't failed--he's doing a pretty damn good of destroying our once great country)

We need term limits and finance reform.

Politicians should be allowed to receive money only from their constituents and only from individuals, not organizations or legal entities.

Not sure what to think here. I thought some people here were on crack when they said that Rubio was a RINO. But after reading this....I’m a bit disillusioned.

No, Rubio's not a Republican in name only...He's a real Republican...

Rubio is what Republicans have turned into...

Sarah Palin is the real RINO...

I’ve been impressed with Rubio, but not meeting the NBC requirements bothers me. If ASA Vet’s dates in his post are wrong, then I’d look at him closer.

I have my own game...It's called anybody but Obama/Romney and every other New World Order, anti-American Globalist out there...

Anyone who supports the UN, the Fed and the Dream Act, needs to be sent packing, IMO.

No, it’s not your imagination and FR has become a bash GOP and conservatives forum. More time is spent bashing GOP candidates than is spent going after the Kenyan. Seriously, WTH?

Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.

Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.

Rubio has become the new Palin, the favorite target of bashers. Why not spend time exposing, ridiculing, etc. the fraud in the WH now?

Just trying to figure out, who (not saying you, trying to look wider here) would want to sideline Rubio, and for what purpose?

DEMS, liberals, progressive, Commies, they HATE Rubio. He is the new Palin, the one they love to hate. He is threatening to them. Young, charismatic, nice looking, speaks well so he is competition because compared to the Kenyan, he is younger, more charismatic, better looking and can speak without a teleprompter.

“He is an internationalist.” - Strobe Talbot

He was elected to serve the United States. He has stated in this that his loyalties lay elsewhere, and by this, he has disqualified himself from holding his current, or any future, US office. He is not worthy of representing Americans or pursuing American interests, either domestically or with other nations. In fact, he is a threat to America.

In coming out like this, he is only doing so for one of two reasons: either anticipating that he will be named Romney’s Vice President; or he hopes to be made head of one of these internationalist organizations, such as the IMF.

In 1972 Strobe Talbott, along with his friends Robert Reich (a fellow Rhodes Scholar) and David E. Kendall, rallied to his friends Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton to help them in their Texas campaign to elect George McGovern president of the United States.

After leaving government, he was for a period Director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. He is currently the president of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an anti-American organization, populated with former officials who now openly seek to undermine American authority and power to the advantage of internationalist organizations.

The former Soviet Foreign Intelligence Service operative Sergei Tretyakov claimed that SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service) considered Talbott a source of intelligence information and classified him as “a special unofficial contact”, although “he was not a Russian spy.”

Maybe it's time we acknowledged that anyone who spends time with the GOP ends up a RINO, regardless of good intentions. Whether they were a closet rino in the first place or succumbed to GOPe pressure, the result for America is the same.

It's time for all good conservatives to band together and make the Constitution Party a force to be reckoned with...and take our country back!

Trying to reform the Republican Party is like traveling west looking for a sunrise - ain't ever gonna happen.
