“The United States has responded the same way as the opposition parties in Europe, accusing the Germans of ruining everything with their austerity.”
We seem to be on the wrong side of everything these days.

Wrong side of what? Of course, the liberals are always on the wrong side of things, but thats in a general sense.
Take note that the champion of austerity herein mentioned is also on the wrong side of its own rhetoric by not being austere, which makes them look like they are taking advantage rather than practicing what they preach. Not to mention also being the champion of a failure of an economic model (the social market economy) and using this crisis to prop that up. It was a mere half-decade before 2008 that they were called the sick man of Europe, dont forget; a recovery such as theirs with such rapidity cannot be the result of any austerity that they themselves did not practice nor are practicing presently.
