The way it was is that Perry was portrayed as the anti Christ himself, then he was mocked as a rube.
No measure of his long record of conservatism was sufficient to call off the howling dogs.
I heard every BS line of hate on the Perry threads and I only saw one jackass zotted.
There was an entire posse with pinglists that just hounded poor Cincinatis Wife
Puh-leeze, CW had no problem using FR to also attack GOP candidates not named Perry. If you play that kind of hardball, you have to expect the same in return.
I was supporting Perry and trying to post in those threads and remember the venom and felt bad for CW too, but this activity was going on at other websites as well. I don't see how it would have even been possible for the admins/mods here to shut this vitriol down without taking absolute draconian measures. Remember, pro-Perry threads can be disrupted without anyone outright hurling insults or something - they can just swarm them and ask one another if they're "heartless" or post long boring screeds or something. When Perry entered the race with money and high poll numbers there was a large wave of hate directed at him on many conservative forums.
This was a unique situation and was a result of Palin's tease campaign. She had a lot of activists/grass roots types of people convinced she was going to run - and those people tend to participate on political forums. They'd been preparing for her entry in the race and Perry looked like he would be her chief conservative rival - so the Palin supporters went to work savaging him. Not blaming Sarah herself, she probably had no idea stuff like that was going on - but her "will I or won't I" tease campaign caused a great deal more damage to this cycles GOP primary process than most people understand. The anti-Perry forum hate was just one effect of it.
Amen..She soldiered on and I appreciated her.
i remember that that disillusioned me about FR also
