The First Lady's whirlwind tour of Spain in 2010 better have been a once in a lifetime trip, because her getaway cost taxpayers nearly half a million dollars.
The highly controversial and lavish trip drew ire at the time, but the White House assured the public that the Obamas picked up the tab on their own.
But new information from Judicial Watch, a public interest group that investigates government corruption, detailed the extensive security costs to the United States Air Force and Secret Service.
The Obamas' highly publicized and polarizing vacations may cost the First Family even more, as voters appear to be disheartened by their extravagance.

Did they claim these vacations and shopping sprees on their taxes? The trips for meeting diplomats and such can be a buisness trip, but traveling for vacations and such should be counted as income as their employer (us) paid for them.
It is ludicrous to believe that a trip to Spain with this moocher and her entourage occupying that exclusive villa hotel was ONLY a half a million dollars. Or that the trip to India and the Taj Mahal, and the multiple trips to Hawaii and to Martha’s vineyard..... We are not idiots out here, Obama!

I think $500,000 is the “starting from” price - not the ending up price which is probably 1 or 2 orders of magnitude more.
I believe that the reported costs only covered the air fares.
