The Soyuz TMA-22 spacecraft carrying Expedition 30 Commander Dan Burbank and Flight Engineers Anton Shkaplerov and Anatoly Ivanishin lands in Kazakhstan on April 27, 2012.

Pretty sad that landing with a parachute into the dirt of Earth from deep space is beyond what we’re capable of at the moment. I know of at least one instance when Soviet Cosmonauts smacked into the Earth at terminal velocity because the parachutes failed.

We have more pressing needs at the moment. Healthcare, “unequalization”, racism, capitalism....We need to fix these before we spend money on silly space./s

True, but would the results be much different if Astronauts smacked into the ocean at terminal velocity because the parachutes failed?

Yeah, but I know of at least one instance when American Astronauts smacked into the upper atmosphere at terminal velocity because the left wing on their gliding-return spaceship failed ...
