The parents went on TV the next day with their child sitting quietly on dad's lap, and said the other couple were really nice, and amid all the noise they were simply oblivious to the kid. The problem was the media whip-up.
It is horrifying that a small incident can plaster someone across the nation's computers in no time. That kid will be interviewed by Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight and People Magazine in ten years or so, to ask him how he feeeeeeeeeeels about the day he was The Kid Who Cried Over Baseball, etc. I pity him having to go through school and get slammed into lockers and called a crybaby.
