Cantor-allied Young Guns Network urges non-Republicans to vote in Lugar race
http://www.politico.com ^ | 4/27/12 | By MAGGIE HABERMAN

I reported the other day that the Young Guns Network, a group led by two former top aides to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, is spending $100,000 in the primary between Sen. Richard Lugar and state treasurer Richard Mourdock in a bid to protect the Indiana incumbent - and here's what some of that mail looks like.

A lit piece that the YG Network dropped focuses, as they'd said it would, on energy policy - but it is targeted to non-Republicans, as it reminds voters that Indiana's GOP primary is an open one in which Democrats and independents can vote.

"Indiana does not have party registration," the mail piece says over a picture of a smiling child giving a thumbs-up sign. "You simply need to show up at your polling location on May 8, 2012 to vote for Senator Dick Lugar in the Republican Primary."

In case anyone didn't get the point, the piece adds, "You can vote in the May 8th Republican Primary election! The May 8th Election is open to all voters."

At other points ,the piece says Lugar, who is seen as facing an uphill battle against the conservative-backed insurgent, "has always represented mainstream Indiana values."

Republicans urging Democrats and independents to vote in open primaries was a major point of contention in the Mitt Romney-Rick Santorum fights in the Midwest in recent months. But in this case it's a group with ties to House GOP leadership urging non-Republicans to vote in the primary, and against the conservative favorite.

As Alex reported a little while ago, the establishment backing of Lugar is already showing cracks, with the American Action Network canceling its air support of the incumbent. So having a different group allied with the House leadership encouraging non-Republiacns to vote against the conservative-backed choice is almost certainly not going to play well with the base, or some of the Republican caucus.

There are also still ruffled feathers over the $25,000 donation Cantor made (he blamed a staff error) to a super PAC geared toward knocking out several House GOPers facing primaries.

Barney Keller, a spokesman for the Club for Growth, which has been laying down heavy cash on Mourdock's behalf, said of the mailer, “Regrettably, Eric Cantor’s actions confirm the worst of what grassroots conservatives dislike about a Washington Republican leadership that is more interested in protecting its own than in promoting conservative principles and candidates.”

I've emailed a spokesman for the group and will update if I hear back.

Not much thought going on there, dforest - Mitt supported Lugar. I’m with PALIN. You would be wise to keep your thoughts to yourself, since you counteract your own post. “A double-minded man is unable in all his ways”.

Palin has expressed she will be with Romney you fool.

I might also add that YOU and people like YOU are the people that ruined her chances. Who wants a foul and nasty bombthrowing hypocrite FOR them.

A person needs decent people FOR them, not foul shrews.

Big sabotage turnoff you are.

Lugar was the the first proud “conservative” to latch onto the global warming scam by getting Lugar Farms listed on the Chicago Climate exchange for carbon sequestration.

I sure know that. That is why I received nasty responses from them.

You bet I will be at the polls Primary day. That will be my “primary” reason.

For NOW I won’t hold against Cantor what some former aides have done. But those aides, if they continue loyalty*** to Cantor, need to be reminded: what goes around comes around. VA doesn’t have party registration, either, and *some* might encourage Dems in the Cantor’s district one day to vote in a GOP primary for Cantor’s opponent.

*** such as loyalty might mean in politics

Take a look at the SOPA bill (internet takeover) that just passed the House, the vast majority of those ‘small gov’ repubs voted in favor! We have a a big problem in DC and voting is not going to take care of it as they all approve of cheating!

I don’t care what trash like you thinks.

Trash to you is truth that you are incapable of admitting to. Pride always comes before the fall.

I already knew that. Palin doesn’t need a totally whacked out freak as a fan. Get a life.

Go play with your snakes or something. You are worthless.

I sure hope that Cantor will distance himself from this.

How do you do that? Blame someone else, say you didn't do it? We don't understand how it works? Those other guys are liars?

Which one of those positions would make you believe he isn't really a GOPe scumbag?

I’m becoming convinced that Eric Cantor might not be a good candidate for Vice President.

That would be Rep Joe Donnelly who has a very good chance of defeating Mourdock in the general....

Fan? LOL!

Politicians aren’t my fans - I align myself with their PROVEN stand on Our Constitution who never allowed themselves to be shaken from their beliefs or ‘bought off’.

I chose WISELY who I align myself with and NEVER ‘anyone’.

Only a mittminded bot would think of a snake - for they support a snake - creepy fork-tongued mitt.

If not I'm done with him.

You should be through with him now. Why do you think Cantor is anything but a RINO?
