The gang map you mention in your post is very cool. There is a gang on those maps called the “Conservative Vice Lords”. I wonder what their specialies are? Insider trading? Churning stocks? Child labor making T-shirts? :)
A lot of the modern gangs contain “insane” and “unknown”. At one time, there was a gang called “The Insane Unknowns” in Chicago, and I believe that it was a rare example of an interracial, multi-ethnic gang. I would have liked to have joined just to get a jacket. Too bad they didn’t have “charter members”. There was probably money to be made.

1965-1968 I rode the CTA past Garfield Park to high school. That would be the stop Kedzie on either the Lake Street El or the Congress El. It was known back then that if you got off there, and your skin was the color of turkey (light meat) you were a goner
