The Real Romney
American Clarion ^ | January 18, 2012 | Bob Ellis

Posted on 04/29/2012 4:25:34 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

The Daily Caller reports a huge 200-page research document has hit the internet, and it reveals Mitt Romney utterly and damningly for the flip-flopping opportunistic liberal that he is.

The paper was compiled during the 2008 presidential race and is believed to be from the McCain campaign (not the most conservative source itself). Among some of the interesting tidbits that blow a hole in his claims about being pro-life, pro-marriage, and generally conservative:

Abortion

• Romney says he changed his mind on abortion meeting with Harvard stem cell researcher - Romney claims the doctor said scientists "kill" embryos after 14 days, but doctor later said Romney "mischaracterized my position."
• Months after his "conversion," Romney stated his commitment to upholding Massachusetts’ abortion laws and appointed pro-choice judge to state district court.
• In October 2005, Romney signed bill expanding family planning services, including abortion counseling and morning-after pill.
• In December 2005, Romney "abruptly ordered his administration to reverse course . . . and require Catholic hospitals to provide emergency contraception medication to rape victims."
• Romney health insurance plan expanded access to abortion, required Planned Parenthood representative on state panel.
• Romney endorsed legalization of abortion pill RU-486 access during his 1994 Senate race and backed federal funding of abortion, saying "I think it’s important that people see me not as a pro-life candidate."
• In 1994 and 2002, Romney confirmed his support for Roe v. Wade decision and forcefully positioned himself as pro-choice in 1994 Senate race, saying "you will not see me wavering on that."
• Romney has refused to comment on bill pending in South Carolina legislature requiring that abortion doctors offer pregnant women option of viewing ultrasound.

Gay Rights

• Romney endorsed Rep. Barney Frank’s Employment Nondiscrimination Act in 1994.
• In 1994, Romney called "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy first step toward having gays and lesbians "able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military" and said he would provide "more effective leadership" on gay rights issues than Ted Kennedy.
• In 2003, Washington Times reported Romney "would support a Vermont-style civil union law in Massachusetts."
• As governor, Romney said health coverage benefits and hospital visitation rights should be provided to gay couples.
• Romney promised to make gay partnership benefits a "hallmark of my leadership as governor" and has said he would attend gay weddings if invited.
• Romney publicly opposed Boy Scouts’ ban on homosexuals in 1994 and 2002 campaigns.
• In 2002, Romney backed hate crimes legislation that included sexual orientation provisions.
• In 2007, Romney praised gay parent who confronted him over gay marriage issue, but in 2005 remarked to South Carolina audience that some gay couples "are actually having children" and called it "wrong."

Gun Control

• In 1994 Senate race, Romney backed Brady bill and assault weapons ban, saying "I don’t line up with the NRA" and "that’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA."
• Romney called Clinton crime bill "a big step forward."
• As governor, Romney quadrupled gun licensing fees and vowed not to "chip away" at tough gun laws
• In 2004, Romney signed permanent state-level ban on assault weapons that was mirrored after federal assault weapons ban. • In January 2006, Romney said he owned a gun - then two days later admitted he did not and the gun belonged to his son.
• Romney bragged about being member of the NRA but later revealed he didn’t join until August 2006, just before launching his presidential campaign.
• Romney recently said he’s "been a hunter pretty much all my life" but later admitted he hunted only twice in his life, later clarifying remarks by claiming he has hunted "small varmints . . . more than two times."
• In 2006 press conference, Romney claimed he had been hunting "many times" after returning from quail hunt in Georgia.

The paper also goes on to provide much greater details about these facts also. You should be sure to read the whole thing.

If Republicans allow themselves to be duped into believing Mitt "RomneyCare" Romney is a real Republican (much less a real conservative), they will be sorely disappointed if given a chance to find the truth once he’s in the White House.

If Republicans allow the "mainstream" media and RINO elites to scare them into settling for this poor excuse for a Republican, they are going to kick themselves later. With Americans having gotten a clear look at liberalism under Barack Obama and his Democrat Congress, there will never be a better time to elect a real Republican, a conservative who understands how America was designed to operate. With the damage done by liberals to our great nation, there has never been a time when we have more desperately needed a conservative who knows what makes this country tick . . . not one who will only reduce - but not stop - the level of liberal poison being injected into our society.

The truth is, Romney almost certainly will not get a chance to show his true face. Enough Republicans already understand that he’s nothing but a liberal with an "R" after his name, which means that even if people allow the "mainstream" media and the GOP establishment to fool them into supporting him in the primary, there will not be enough support from Republicans who know the truth to push him over the top in the general election. Principled Republicans will not vote for a fraud like Romney, and when "independents" are given a choice between a liberal with an "R" after his name and a liberal who proudly embraces the liberal Democrat Party, they’ll go for the genuine article every time.

Republicans, let’s throw this pretender onto the side of the road while there is still time, and choose a real Republican like Rick Santorum. Half-measures and "the lesser of two evils" will not be enough to save our ailing country; we must have decisive leadership that understands the need to return to the traditional American values that are PROVEN to work. Rick Santorum understands that; Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it.

He talked about Alinsky tactics because he was so very familiar with them.

Gosh!

I'd better watch out; for so am I!

(As well as other stuff...)

Logical fallacies hide the truth, so pointing them out is very useful.

1. Ad Hominem - Attacking the individual instead of the argument.
Example: You are so stupid your argument couldn't possibly be true.
Example: I figured that you couldn't possibly get it right, so I ignored your comment.

2. Appeal to Force - Telling the hearer that something bad will happen to him if he does not accept the argument.
Example: If you don't want to get beaten up, you will agree with what I say.
Example: Convert or die.

3. Appeal to Pity - Urging the hearer to accept the argument based upon an appeal to emotions, sympathy, etc.
Example: You owe me big time because I really stuck my neck out for you.
Example: Oh come on, I've been sick. That's why I missed the deadline.

4. Appeal to the Popular - Urging the hearer to accept a position because a majority of people hold to it.
Example: The majority of people like soda. Therefore, soda is good.
Example: Everyone else is doing it. Why shouldn't you?

5. Appeal to Tradition - Trying to get someone to accept something because it has been done or believed for a long time.
Example: This is the way we've always done it. Therefore, it is the right way.
Example: The Catholic church's tradition demonstrates that this doctrine is true.

6. Begging the Question - Assuming the thing to be true that you are trying to prove. It is circular.
Example: God exists because the Bible says so. The Bible is inspired. Therefore, we know that God exists.
Example: I am a good worker because Frank says so. How can we trust Frank? Simple: I will vouch for him.

7. Cause and Effect - Assuming that the effect is related to a cause because the events occur together.
Example: When the rooster crows, the sun rises. Therefore, the rooster causes the sun to rise.
Example: When the fuel light goes on in my car, I soon run out of gas. Therefore, the fuel light causes my car to run out of gas.

8. Circular Argument - See Begging the Question
Fallacy of Division - Assuming that what is true of the whole is true for the parts.
Example: That car is blue. Therefore, its engine is blue.
Example: Your family is weird. That means that you are weird too.

9. Fallacy of Equivocation - Using the same term in an argument in different places but the word has different meanings.
Example: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Therefore, a bird is worth more than President Bush.
Example: Evolution states that one species can change into another. We see that cars have evolved into different styles. Therefore, since evolution is a fact in cars, it is true in species.

10. False Dilemma - Giving two choices when in actuality there could be more choices possible.
Example: You either did knock the glass over or you did not. Which is it? (Someone else could have knocked the glass over)
Example: Do you still beat your wife?

11. Genetic Fallacy - Attempting to endorse or disqualify a claim because of the origin or irrelevant history of the claim.
Example: The Nazi regime developed the Volkswagen Beetle. Therefore, you should not buy a VW Beetle because of who started it.
Example: Frank just got out of jail last year; since it was his idea to start the hardware store, I can't trust him.

12. Guilt by Association - Rejecting an argument or claim because the person proposing it likes someone whom is disliked by another.
Example: Hitler liked dogs. Therefore dogs are bad.
Example: Your friend is a thief. Therefore, I cannot trust you.

13. Non Sequitur - Comments or information that do not logically follow from a premise or the conclusion.
Example: We know why it rained today: because I washed my car.
Example: I don't care what you say. We don't need any more bookshelves. As long as the carpet is clean, we are fine.

14. Poisoning the Well - Presenting negative information about a person before he/she speaks so as to discredit the person's argument.
Example: Frank is pompous, arrogant, and thinks he knows everything. So, let's hear what Frank has to say about the subject.
Example: Don't listen to him because he is a loser.

15. Red Herring - Introducing a topic not related to the subject at hand.
Example: I know your car isn't working right. But, if you had gone to the store one day earlier, you'd not be having problems.
Example: I know I forgot to deposit the check into the bank yesterday. But, nothing I do pleases you.

16. Special Pleading (double standard) - Applying a standard to another that is different from a standard applied to oneself.
Example: You can't possibly understand menopause because you are a man.
Example: Those rules don't apply to me since I am older than you.

17. Straw Man Argument - Producing an argument about a weaker representation of the truth and attacking it.
Example: The government doesn't take care of the poor because it doesn't have a tax specifically to support the poor.
Example: We know that evolution is false because we did not evolve from monkeys.

18. Category Mistake - Attributing a property to something that could not possibly have that property. Attributing facts of one kind are attributed to another kind. Attributing to one category that which can only be properly attributed to another.
Example: Blue sleeps faster than Wednesday.
Example: Saying logic is transcendental is like saying cars would exist if matter didn't.

Uh-oh someone didn’t get the “no more dancing on zot graves” memo. Now we just trash them when they can’t defend themselves semi-privately in threads with the cool kids.

He was a hypocrite, a liar, a character assassin, an Alinskyite Troll who would make personal attacks against other FReepers and then whine like a child, complaining that it “interfered with discussion” when he got even a hint of it back.

I guess his behavior on this thread is acceptable to you and the others “high fiving” each other over your peurile attempts to demean and ridicule those you disagree with vs. engaging in legitimate discussion?

Yeah, that’s “conservative”.

But most of all, he was an unprincipled party hack, a pro-Romney, pro-abortion, anti-2nd amendment, socialist loving sycophant.

Thank you! It's nice to see it all in one place. Mind if I copy it?

I may have left out a word:
"He talked about Alinsky tactics because he was so very familiar with using them." In this case, "Accuse your target of what you're doing."

That memo was never issued.

We can laugh and dance anytime some creep gets his posting privileges revoked.

If you’d open your eyes and stop whining about every zot, you might learn something. How you can possibly defend such a reviled disruptor troll is beyond me.

If you can’t bear a site without him, I respectfully suggest that you join him wherever he may have gone. If you can’t bear our laughter, don’t read the thread. But GET OFF OUR BACKS.

Very insightful comments,

"Judging ... by the behavior of his core supporters, he is every bit as capable of tyranny and progressivism as Obama..."

All you have to do is look at a few of the posters on this thread who are Romney sycophants to get a taste of this.

"Romney is arrogant and ruthless."

The ruthlessness displayed on this thread has already resulted in a so-called conservative getting the zot. But I suspect that many are just party loyalists and don't have the stomach nor the wherewithal to tell the e-GOP to GTH.

As for those who are resisting the "party", well look around, the vilification, the personal attacks, the demonization, the peurile and petulant behavior on display is quite enlightening and startling.

I am not having much of a problem identifying the TRUE Conservatives from the FAUX Conservatives lately.

Dance all you like, it's just not becoming and I will continue to point that out. He wasn't a troll and his posts were about learning something. Turning a blind eye to facts in order to defend any position is a weakness, not a strength.

But GET OFF OUR BACKS. This is Free Republic, not DU or TB.

That's why I don't think I will, this used to be better than DU and that is no longer the case.

Oh cry me an effin river. If someone doesn't want to get "trashed" without being able to defend themselves, them maybe they ought to act like civilized CONSERVATIVE adults when engaging other FReepers.

Make even a half-hearted attempt at maintaining proper decorum and their account vs. getting zotted by the mods. The fact that not only would he not, he absolutely refused to hold himself to the same standards he tried to hold others to.

Nope in fact I don't think I ever have. This is the Real Romney thread, and I was learning things reading and then the zot ping was posted. So, come to think of it they were trolls.

Many have (me, too) posted that banning has gotten out of hand, and now POOF that ping list is no more. Things that make you go hmmmm?

Your opinion, which is disingenuous and designed to suppress what has been a FR institution since before I got here, is worthless and trollish. You’re here to make us feel bad about taking out the trash.

Your expression “not becoming,” you have stolen from me, and if you aren’t any more creative than that, then you should go back to your TB masters and tell them that you were defeated by a senile old lady.

Oh! I am just delighted to hear that you think DU is so much better than FR! I assume that since you feel that way, you will absent yourself immediately and get to that other site right away.

It would make no sense at all for you to stay here where it is so awful.

You're doing your best to make this about me versus you instead of about conservatives vs liberals. Keep flailing, dear!

You never DID answer my simple question: What does Romney's Mormonism have to do with my rejecting him as a Christian because of his documented record of supporting abortion and the gay "outreach" to schoolchildren?

Hint: It's the abortion and the gay agenda that go against my Christian values; I'd reject Romney just as soundly if he was a Catholic, a Hindu, a Presbyterian, a Muslim, or a Wiccan with the same record of enabling both forms of moral abandon and depravity.

It's not about you, female veteran (you're no lady), nor is it about me. It's about the hard reality that Romney is the antithesis of a conservative.

And my point remains: whatever team you're on must be the wrong one because you are so wrong-headed, veteran or not. I thank you for your service -- however, I don't deify you for it. You are managing to do that all by yourself.

yes, I read through the whole thread...RS and a couple of others have exhibited little to no restraint in their outright contempt for SoCon...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=103#103 (cognitive dissonance, thin skinned)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=112#112 (more of the same)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=175#175 (still more of the same, a victim of his own behavior.)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=180#180 (still staying on point here as well...typical Alinskyite tactic trying to force the OP to defend himself as not being a troll.)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=187#187 (starting to see the trend yet?)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=195#195 (strawman, again trying to get the OP to defend himself vs. debating the OP)

And then there’s this one...a flat out distortion of the facts. How do I know? I engaged him numerous times on some of those threads and his purpose and actions were exactly what he claimed the others of.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=206#206

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2877938/posts?page=217#217 (Engaging in mocking and derisive comments without having the courage to ping those who he’s referring to. Hiding in the shadows.)

Shall I go on? Even when SoCon rebutted RS’s posts, RS moved the posts, again and again.

Sorry, I stand by my original assessment of RS that was borne out of my experiences with it (not a typo) on previous threads and topics.

YMMV and apparently it does...
