President Obama has arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan, on a surprise trip to sign a strategic agreement with Afghanistan. He will address the nation at 7:30 p.m. EDT from Bagram Air Base on Tuesday evening. In going to Afghanistan on the ninth anniversary of the most notorious example of premature presidential gloating, Obama risks turning the high point of his presidency into a political weapon for his enemies. But it will be how the president conducts himself while in the war zone that will determine if this trip is lumped in with George W. Bush's donning of a flight suit and appearing on an aircraft carrier under a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

The trip makes me think of Bush's secret trip to Iraq for Thanksgiving in 2003, which was so secret that no one heard about it until he was safely on the way home. The troops thought someone was going to come out and read them a message from President Bush, and out walks their Commander-in-Chief to serve them Thanksgiving dinner.
Obama will announce a breakthrough agreement with the Taliban and that peace in Afghanistan is a hand. Everyone will rejoice and worship the new savior - the peacemaker.
He will say he met with the Taliban leaders today and a ceasefire (think Kerry in France with Vietcong) will become effective on a certain day. What will not be said is that from his stimulus reserve of $$ billions, he is transferring a cool billion for them to stop until after the election.
That will give the Taliban with AQ backup, money and time to regroup and be ready to take over Afghanistan in 2013, thanks be to Obama.
May he be subject to the tender mercies of the Fedhayeen.
It took how long to get OBL? The credit should go to our intelligence agencies and Gitmo. It reminds me when I was a kid. Go through all the work to make a cake and have someone take credit for all the hard work. Obama had the fun part...cutting the cake.

Yes, this is worrisome. Just what exactly is a “strategic agreement?” Hammered out by whom, and when? Nobody knows anything about it, and now he’s going to sign it. Grrr....
Thanks very much, and I agree the GOP refused to respond to those attacks. That it was so easily explained is what makes that whole matter so aggravating. The repubs simply let the dems have the narrative on it.
