The Washington Post headlines its story about Team Obamas new campaign ad with Obama goes negative on Mitt Romneys wealth with Swiss Bank Account. A better headline would have been, Got desperation? The ad itself is not unexpected, and hits all of the class-warfare buttons one imagines:
Video : Swiss Bank Account
Chris Cillizza gives this a straightforward look on the ad, which will air in Iowa, Ohio, and Virginia, three key battleground states this fall. The attack is also straightforward, of course. Romney is rich enough to have a Swiss bank account, a subject that came up briefly in the Republican primary, so we knew it would be the subject of an Obama attack in the general election, too. The Obama campaign has to hope that it will resonate most in Ohio, a state Republicans desperately need to win back this cycle and where unemployment remains stubbornly high. Obama wants to build resentment towards Romney as a means to distract people from his own failure to put Ohio voters back to work, and this is perhaps the best arrow in his quiver.

Its gonna be a long summer, folks, but there is one bright spot. If Obama is making Dana Milbank queasy with his over-the-top campaigning, hes probably turning off a lot more independents and moderate Democrats to an even greater degree.
If you lose Dana Milbank....
In today's media environment, if people get sick of hearing about Romney's Swiss bank account, that'll be seen as being Romney's fault. If, on the other hand, some Republican candidate were to ride Obama's elegibility problem, or his drug use, or his connections with domestic terrorists, or any of a dozen other subjects... if a Republican were to ride those issues, he'd be seen as a nutcase who was beating a dead horse. Go figure.
Of course, Mitt Romney would never in a million years dream of doing any such thing. I expect him to stand still and take it, going down in flames next November just like McCain did.
Does anyone know if Mitt actually does have a Swiss bank account?
Between Romney's tax returns and the Romney conference call on the tax returns, Romney disclosed approximately $3 million in a Swiss bank account; an undisclosed of Romney Family Trust funds in Luxembourg, Germany, and Australia; and an undisclosed amount of Ann B. Romney Blind Trust funds in the Cayman Islands and Ireland.
I'm not complaining about it - just noting it. Once the 'Swiss Bank Account' meme takes hold, we'll start to hear "and there's an undisclosed amount in Luxembourg." Then "wait . . . there's an undisclosed amount in Australia, too." "and the Cayman Islands" . . . "Why isn't this money in the U.S.? What's he hiding?" And the media will don their Junior Proctologist lab coats and have a field day with the Romneys.
LOL . . how GREAT would that feel ? !
2nd best part is 14 knew he was about to get his ass leveled !
So who can Americans relate to more, a person with a Swiss bank account or a person with a Kenyan bank account?
