Das "Forward": Where Do You Think They Got That Idea?

The Obama re-election campaign has moved on from the 2008 campaign slogan, "Change we can believe in." Yesterday Team Obama introduced the 2012 version – "Forward" – complete with a seven minute video.  But, it immediately raised some eyebrows among the politically astute.

Victor Morton at the Washington Times recognized that Forward is "a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism."

Gee, I wonder why anybody closely connected to Barack Obama would come up with that idea?

The following is an excerpt and a link to Morton's article:

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."

"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.

The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.  Read more.

From Wiki:

The Forward (Yiddish:

פֿאָרווערטס; Forverts), commonly known as The Jewish Daily Forward, is a Jewish-American newspaper published in New York City. The publication began in 1897 as a Yiddish-language daily issued by dissidents from the Socialist Labor Party of Daniel DeLeon. As a privately-owned publication loosely affiliated with the Socialist Party of America, Forverts achieved massive circulation and considerable political influence during the first three decades of the 20th Century. The publication still exists as a weekly news magazine in parallel Yiddish (Yiddish Forward) and English editions (The Jewish Daily Forward

“Forward!” was also the motto of Mussolini’s Fascists.

Most people didn't catch the reference, but his previous campaign theme was also symbolic, although much less sinister. "Yes we can" is a play on Sammy Davis Jr.'s 1965 autobiography title "Yes I Can," about Sammy's rise to fame in show business, overcoming racism on his way to super stardom.

So I don't take that this is an accident, he is too careful with his symbology, and the left loves symbolism too much, for it to be an accident.

I doubt 0 and his tools spend much time reading history.

More likely one of his nerdlings was listening to Devo and a little light bulb came on over his head in one of those cartoon clouds and he said out loud:
“Why, we’ll call it `WIG: Whip It Good’ because the song talks about, you know, when a problem comes around you must whip it and move forward and ... “

“That’s right pilgrim. I said, `Whip it’. Good.”

Just like with his Styrofoam pillars(Adolf used real ones) and his Pepsi Cola logo. It'll make a great arm patch for his 'purple shirts'.

Thanks for posting.

Perhaps readers of this thread might find Eugen Richter's satire entitled, "Pictures of the Socialistic Future," to be of interest.

When one looks around at what has happened to America already, and the degree to which the backward "forward" ideas have dimmed the light of liberty which once beamed its rays to oppressed people throughout the world, then Richter's pages take on new meaning.

Click on any of the segments and find something relevant to today's discussions. Please note that this exquisite bit of satire by Richter was written in 1893.

Coincidentally, in "The New Laws" section, he mentions that the "organ" under the new order is called "Onward." How interesting is that?

Had most of us read this writer's work twenty years ago, it might not have the chilling effect it does today. After the last 3 years, however, the descriptions of life in a "socialistic future," as described, even in satirical terms, is current as today's news, and too realistic to be amusing.
