In 1985 Eddie lost his son to liver disease. “I didn’t want to be out of the music business, but where I was, was more important,” he said of his three year hiatus.

Eddie Rabbitt decided to return to his musical roots. He had long been an admirer of Bob Dylan, Donnie Fagan, Elton John, Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson. He especially loved the work Sam Phillips had done at Sun Records in the Fifties, and his next disk, “I Wanna Dance with You”, showed that influence. Two hits came from that album. The first was a version of Dion’s old 1963 hit.

”The Wanderer”

The second was the title song. By this time, Stevens and Malloy were no longer in the picture, and Eddie’s song writing partner was Motown saxophonist Junior Walker.
