May 4, 2012 Reward offered in death of Lightning Medicine Cloud

By BRAD KELLAR CNHI

GREENVILLE — A grieving Arby Little Soldier announced Friday a $5,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Lightning Medicine Cloud, a white buffalo sacred to Native Americans, and his mother.

"The people have taken the heart of a spiritual situation here," Little Soldier said.

During a press conference at the Lakota Ranch near Greenville, investigators looking into the deaths declined to release any details as to how the buffaloes died, other than to confirm that a criminal probe was underway, involving the Hunt County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers and the federal Department of Indian Affairs.

Sheriff Randy Meeks did not comment on reports aired by a Dallas television station concerning the case.

"We are still early into the investigation and I'm not at liberty to say," Meeks said, adding a veterinarian was called to the ranch upon the discovery of the bodies. "We have not received that report yet."

Next week's Native American Powwow, which had been scheduled at the ranch to celebrate Lightning Medicine Cloud's first birthday, will still be presented.

"We are now going to celebrate his memorial," Little Soldier said.

Im no expert, but I can get along.

I'm just a cook that draws and paints sometimes.

But I do really enjoy airbrushing. It's over when it hits (unless you are using the right artboard and watercolors and can go back with a brush to blend), and you can do such photo-realistic stuff with it.

Nothing wrong with non-experts enjoying a hobby and having a passion for what they enjoy doing.

This was symbolic to someone.

The white buffalo was discovered Monday. That means it was probably killed sometime Sunday night, April 29.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Poor things may have suffered a curse, being worshiped, which is wrong.

I always wanted to do something with egg tempera but never got around to it. That can be somewhat imitated with acrylics too. I’ve always liked the look of those old medieval period tempera paintings.

I like pencil, too, but you have to be careful to not smudge it. I used to use hair spray to fix the graphite to the artboard or paper, back in the day, when hair spray had ozone destroying fluourocarbons. I miss those days.

Last weekend, I got a pat on the back from a photog type for my pencil of the New Haven stage coach shotgun that I did years ago. Smudges, wiped off cat barf and 5 moves included.

Yeah you gotta seal stuff like that to prevent smudges

I'm making/have oak gall and iron ink. I haven't make egg tempura from scratch yet.

It does tie into the whole food thing for me. Everyone knows that eggs or milk left in a dish turn into epoxy that can't be removed.

I learned that in a skullery job.

I'm not quite there yet.

I wasn’t referring to DHS as having a clue, but having technology and assets.

This might be one of the most famous tempera paintings of all time.

Here is a really neat modern tempera painting. This is new to me.

I thought I would enjoy making paints from dry pigments and fresh materials but I stopped doing art before I got there.

I guess a real purist has to raise their own chickens and milk their own cow. /s lol
