Charging them with a “gross misdemeanor” seems very inadequate. What would qualify as “felony child abuse”? Mayhem? Savage beatings? Attempted murder?
Hopefully these charges are upgraded to felonies.
Not knowing any more than what the excerpt says, and knowing the disposition of many 12 year old girls, I pass no judgment on the parents at this point.
My very mouthy older sister, who was twelve at the time, was sassing my mom. Somehow the contest of wills focussed on how Mom had changed older sister's diaper when she was an infant and how Mom would make her wear a diaper now if she didn't act more grown up.
Older sister mistakenly declared that there was no way Mom was going to make her wear a diaper.
It took about two hours but the deed was done. Even older sister joined in the laughter.
Even shaving a kid's head doesn't do any lasting damage. Certainly not compared to the damage done by disrespectful kids who fail to observe proper limits to their behavior.
