Josh Hamilton Rips Four 2-run HRs

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton's torrid 2012 season now includes his first career four-home-run game, all of them two-run shots in a 10-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Hamilton homered off Jake Arrieta in the first and third innings, added another off Zach Phillips in the seventh and topped it off with a one-for-the-books shot against Darren O'Day in the eighth. During the last at-bat, Hamilton took a mighty hack and missed, lined a foul into right-field seats and then sent an 0-2 pitch over the center-field wall.

It marked the 16th four-home-run game in major league history. Hamilton is the first to accomplish the feat since Carlos Delgado did so on Sept. 25, 2003, for Toronto against Tampa Bay. Two of the 16 players to hit four homers in a game did it before 1900. Hamilton is the sixth AL player to perform the feat.

From Tim Kurkjian of ESPN: "Hamilton hit for 18 total bases tonight. Albert Pujols has 18 total bases in his last 19 games."

Ouch.

Was the double close to being a home run?

Had to read that headline two or three times to mentally absorb it. That’s just incredible!

None of us will probably see anything like this again during our lifetimes. 4 Home Runs in a game is one thing, but 4 - TWO RUN homers is just unreal! I’d say this performance was next to impossible.

I’d been running around doing errands and such with daughter and son met me at the door and announced he was wearing his Josh Hamilton shirt to school tomorrow. We subscribed to the MLB season and he is paying for it with some of his lawn mowing money . . . we live in Braves territory.

Go Rangers!!!! I lived in Arlington for almost 20 years. Loved it there.

Cincinnati was crazy. We got Edinson Volquez and he’s traded and playing poorly someplace out west, I think.

It one-hopped the wall in right-center. Probably travelled 360 ft. in the air and never got 35 feet off the ground.

Better check my eyes as I thought it had hit off the wall about midway up.

In 1958 Rocky Colavito hit four straight home runs against Baltimore as it happened. Not all four-hitters hit them consecutively. The next night, unfortunately, he popped up in his historic attempt at a never-done fifth straight homer.

And the other oddity about them all being 2-run homers was the same guy (Andrus) scored on all of them.

Hamilton homered in his last AB in Monday nights game, so his last 6 AB’s are 5 home runs and a double. 22 total bases in 6 at bats.
