This story is being floated by Team Romney for one of two reasons:

1. Their internal polls show him goign down in flames because the base is staying home and he needs to do something desperate to get the base off of the couch and they see Huckabee as the ebst bet to do that; OR

2. They are getting concerned with the base sitting this one out and they need to toss around some more Boob Bait for Bubbas to keep the base ginned up.

Either way, it’s still a “No Sale” with me.

I think it’s the latter case. The Romney people are just floating the notion in a rather transparent effort to gin up interest in Romney with the evangelical crowd, whose enthusiasm for Romney ranges from moribund to nonexistent. It’s totally disingenuous. They’d never go for Huckabee in a million years.
