Mitt Romney Won't Stand Up To His Own Party (well, duh; invertebrates can't stand)
Wasington Post ^ | May 8 2012 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 05/09/2012 12:29:28 PM PDT by torchy

Almost four years ago, I was watching Sarah Palin rile up a Clearwater, Fla., crowd with anti-Obama broadsides when a spectator let loose a bloodcurdling cry of "kill him!"

To his credit, John McCain realized the Obama hatred was getting out of hand, and a few days later, when a woman at one of his events called Obama an "Arab," McCain did one of the most honorable things in his political career. "No, ma'am," he said, taking the microphone from the woman and enduring some boos from supporters. "He's a decent, family-man citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues."...

The latest sign of trouble came Monday, when a woman speaking at a Mitt Romney event in Euclid, Ohio, said that Obama was operating outside of the Constitution and "should be tried for treason". Many in the crowd of 500 applauded this call for the commander in chief of the United States to be charged with a capital offense.

But Romney didn't push back against this outrage...

Days earlier, Romney made scant effort to defend one of his aides, Richard Grenell, who had been hired only weeks before to serve as a foreign policy spokesman. Conservative groups complained noisily because Grenell is openly gay. Romney declined to push back publicly against the conservatives, and Grenell resigned.

This followed Romney's unfortunate response two months ago to Rush Limbaugh's claim that a Georgetown University student who testified about birth control was a "slut" and a "prostitute." The candidate declined to rebuke Limbaugh, saying only that "it's not the language I would have used."

Some take Romney's reticence to challenge the right as evidence that he is the "severe conservative" he claimed to be. I suspect it has more to do with weakness...

Weakness? Gee, ya think??

Romney is so pathetically weak and spineless that (as noted by the author) he even makes McCain look good.

No, McCain was the weaker one in kowtowing to the media and kowtowing to Obama. Romney should have said that Obama spending the country into bankruptcy while cutting defense should be raising eyebrows everywhere and that even “treason” should not be off the table.

I think it is pathetic to quote Dana Milbank of all people.

Some more observations on Romney's weakness:
...Over the course of the primary another more significant problem regarding Mitt Romney, one which is potentially much more serious, emerged. As Romney has campaigned for president, it has become increasingly clear that while he is smart, well-spoken, looks presidential and has an attractive family, he is also not a strong campaigner with little ability to build connections with people or inspire excitement from supporters.

So, you joined FreeRepublic to complain that Romney should stand up to the conservatives in the Republican party? Seriously?

Dana Millbank has an agenda, I hope you know that.

Regardless, Willard has stood up against the Conservatives in his party too many times to count and that's the problem. Millbank knows this but is part of the agenda to cast Willard as a Tea party candidate - the farthest thing from the truth. Actions speak louder than words. Its the GOP-e/lib/socialists that he will not stand up to and why should he? he's one of them.

Dana..that was a myth that was investigated by the Secret Service and thoroughly debunked as false..but then again..why ruin a good hit piece with facts..

...and thus died McCain's candidacy for president.

Part of leadership is slapping down crackpots and troublemakers in your ranks. That’s why (for instance) we cast a jaundiced eye on “moderate Muslims” who don’t do squat to suppress the lunatic terrorist Muslims.

Like people who make absurd charges (e.g. equating policy differences with “treason”) and engage in vulgar name-calling (e.g. the “slut” and “prostitute” trolling).

McCain was a humorless scold and a sanctimonious one at that.

At least Romney isn’t that.

I see this as a positive. That means the Conservatives that get elected to Congress will be able to push through our agenda.

Kind off odd, but both Democrats and conservatives do not like Romney for very different reasons. Dems painting Romney as a conservative (which he is not) and conservatives KNOW he is a liberal RINO at best and already the phony facade of his “severe conservatism” is starting to flake off and we haven’t even gotten to the RNC convention yet.

The only one trolling here is you. Go back to the gutter ie. Democratic Underground, where you belong.

When Obama disavows the new black panthers, Nation of Islam, Black Liberation Theology and their touch throwers, I’ll take Milbank seriously. Don’t have much use for Demos criticising Republicans and claiming other Republicans should do the same.

There should be a grace period before newbies can post new threads here. Would cut down on the lib trolling big time.
