I felt the same way last week when I was watching Jeopardy. I wasn’t really paying attention when all of a sudden Alex says, “...here’s the first lady...” and Michelle Obama appears on my tv screen giving the clues for some category about nutrition. I can’t remember all of the clues-—one of them was about some initiative that was passed praising Big Government in our lives, another was about ‘a vegetable that is the favorite of the leader of the free world.” I nearly barfed when I heard that one, but was not surprised. Those two LOVE their titles and use them at every available opportunity. How many times have you heard Obama call himself the CIC this past week? I don’t remember GWB referring to himself as the leader of the free world. Total narcissism on full display. I was hoping that one of the college kids would have given an answer like “What is a fake birth certificate, Alex?” or “Who is Larry Sinclair, Alex” just to knock these clowns down a few pegs for once.
Please tell me, exactly what benefit does the union of two gay guys give to society?

That is exactly the right question. As I see it, the economic benefits of marriage (sharing in spouses’ pensions, health insurance ets.) serve a social purpose in that they compensate a couple for bearing and raising children, an activity without which the nation could not survive. Two adult men, especially, should be compelled to earn their own keep during their working lives and to provide for their own retirements. The thought of a gay “widower” receiving his “spouse’s” bloated government pension (I’m sure gays are overrepresented in the pulic sector) on our dime is repulsive in that it represents a complete waste of resources vis a vis the needs of society.

Most Presidents have their speeches written by staffers and then checked for potential political problems by their political mavens.
Either Obama is writing his own stuff or the staffers have no sense of what political landmines they are creating.
Either way, it shows a mindset that isn’t very welcome to the public at large.
