State workers' compensation is back on the budget chopping block.
Brown administration officials met with the state employee union leaders last week, according to sources familiar with the meetings, to warn them that the next version of the governor's budget will include an unspecified cut in employee costs up to 10 percent.
The administration in January estimated that California is confronting a $9.2 billion deficit through 2012-13, but a recent state analysis concluded the actual gap is considerably more.
The sources, who declined to talk on the record because the administration asked all involved to keep the discussions secret, said Brown told the unions he was seeking $750 million in state employee cost savings for fiscal 2012-13.
The sources said the Brown administration asked union leaders to come up with ways to make the reduction -- pay cuts or higher benefit contributions, for instance.

Let’s see. 9 Bil in deficit, and Moonbeam is asking for 750M from unions. Sounds like his math has not improved since his first two terms.
Brown will never put serious cuts on the table that will piss off those who got him elected as he knows that they will simply back another commie who will keep the spigot wide open.
Cali will turn into another Greece, just wait. Race riots, union temper tantrums, rolling power black outs, you name it.
Followed by Illinois and New York.
that’s code/extra motivation to get out the vote for Brown’s tax increases....
In Greece, 1 in 3 worked for the government. You're probably right, government implodes.
Gov. Brown don’t want to be singing the recall blues. (That is if they do recall in CA)
(That is if they do recall in CA)
Uhh... Remember Gray out Davis... Arnold...
is it coming back to you yet? ;)
California is run by the “Cali-ban”.....
The Unions have infiltrated everything from law enforcement, education and health-care. The union mentality is a culture of mediocracy that always leads to failure.
The murder rate has been falling for years in CA. In 2010, it was 4.9 per 100,000. For the entire US, the figure is 4.8 per 100,000.

There are less whites to chase down (for a beating or a tax extortion).
I think the opening of the prisons a couple of years ago, coupled with the (actually caused by) the fiscal crisis, made CA a pariah for businesses; even without the onerous taxes and regulations, there is no way to protect company assets and workers (and the bankrupt state can’t help).
California needs to drastically speed up high speed rail.
We need the profit from the ticket sales, NOW!!! /S
In fact most big midwest and east coast cities has substantially more crime per capita than big cities like LA, CA.
