Romney: Gay couples should have right to adopt
The Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

Posted on 05/10/2012 6:38:57 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) said Thursday that he believes gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, even as he reiterated his view that marriage is defined as a relationship between a man and a woman.

In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network, Romney was asked whether he believes the gay marriage debate is a new civil rights movement, as some Democrats have framed the issue.

“I don’t see it in that light,” Romney responded. “I believe my record as a person who has supported civil rights is strong and powerful. At the same time, I believe that marriage has been defined the same way for literally thousands of years by virtually every civilization in history and that marriage is by its definition a relationship between a man and woman.”

He added that “if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, even want to adopt a child — in my state, individuals of the same sex are able to adopt children. In my view, that’s something which people have the right to do, but to call that marriage is, in my view, a departure from the real meaning of the word.”

I know nothing about your background, but here's mine. I spent a good part of a decade fighting “theistic evolution” in the Christian Reformed Church caused by the Howard Van Till controversy. The local presbytery of the denomination to which I now belong, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, voted unanimously to send an anti-evolution statement to the general synod; the biggest concern voiced was that the request didn't have enough “teeth” and should have been stronger. In other words, I have credibility to comment on the issue of evolution; I've done the fighting and I've seen the damage.

In theory I could agree with you. Social Darwinism, euthanasia, birth control, and abortion are all linked to a Hegelian dialectic from the 19th Century with seriously evil roots.

The problem is that many people don't understand those roots, and many others are inconsistent. It simply is not true that everyone who accepts some form of evolution also advocates baby-killing, zero-population-growth, and communist economics.

We need to be very careful that we don't assume that people think things through to their logical conclusions. That is especially true with something like evolution which is now commonly assumed rather than argued about. I think it would be fair to say that many conservatives who don't regularly deal with the fields of science or theology haven't thought enough about evolution to even raise questions about whether it is legitimate.

That is especially true in American politics where we have to get to 50 percent to win elections. I am not going to run around attacking the conservative credentials of a candidate who supports evolution; all that will do is make Republicans look ridiculous to people who should be voting for us. On the other hand, I'm perfectly willing to discuss the issues quietly and privately with someone who shares my belief in an inerrant Bible.

What is happening on Free Republic? This guy had a 1999 signup. Another of the posters advocating similar things is an early signup as well.

Anyone who has been around that long has been around long enough to know better than to advocate homosexual adoption around here. This is not a libertarian or secular conservative site where such views might be okay; this is a conservative site and opposition to homosexuality is not secret around here.

I can think of only three logical explanations:

1. Someone has been hacking very old Free Republic accounts whose posters have abandoned them or haven't used them for a long time.

2. Some very old secular conservative Freepers who didn't get zotted in the McCain or Guiliani days think now that it's okay to support Romney, they can come out of the woodwork and post wild stuff.

3. A group of geriatric Freepers are coming down with early onset Alzheimers.

I don’t think the problem facing faith-based adoption agencies was just funding. These agencies have to be licensed as well. As I recall, agencies that would not place children on a “nondiscriminatory” basis in Illinois could not be licensed.

At this point I fear a 4 year Romney term as being at least as bad as a 4 year lame duck Obama term. Romney offers nothing different from Obama than the color of his skin.

I'm just getting back here after a week's absence (having to do with family elder care), and am not up on everything that has transpired in my absence.

Notwithstanding, dear P-Marlowe, the above italics struck me as just plain nutz.

For openers, I think it useful for you to consider that there is no such thing as a second-term "lame-duck" presidency where Obama is concerned. If anything, if Obama is reelected to a second term in office, he would be even more active in deconstructing the American order than he was in his first term.

This is a guy whose model of governance is the King and his Court. (I.e., Executive Orders and hand-picked "Left Progressive" staffing of the executive departments of government that write the regulations by which we all must abide, without having to consult with Congress first.)

And let the Constitution be damned if it gets in his way. And he has legions of enablers and crony codependents, inside and outside of government, to help him succeed in the implementation of this new model of American government.

Secondly, most definitely, Obama is a quintessential example of narcissist personality. I agree with you there. But in comparison, how on earth have you come to identify Romney as a narcissist? Give me just one example of narcissist behavior on Romney's part. Just ONE. Then maybe I can credit what you are alleging.

I think you may be living in some kind of strange fantasy land, or second reality. You and the coterie of like-minded Romney detractors who have been holding forth at FR in recent times. It seems to me you have constructed a straw man out of the odds and ends of your hyperbolic imagination, a caricature of the man, so you can beat him with a stick with impunity — and mainly because you detest his theology.

I already know that you and your friends will vociferously deny this. Because such behavior as fundamentally unAmerican — we being a people who, in our history, have respected the principle of religious toleration.

It appears that you and your friends are people who cannot be reasoned with.

Notwithstanding, your vote for Virgil Goode is effectively a vote for Obama.

Just saying, from mind and heart. FWIW.

Thanks so much for the ping.

If anything, if Obama is reelected to a second term in office, he would be even more active in deconstructing the American order than he was in his first term.

Congress has it in their power to shut him down. They can draw up articles of impeachment or they can vote down everything he does.

This is a guy whose model of governance is the King and his Court. (I.e., Executive Orders and hand-picked "Left Progressive" staffing of the executive departments of government that write the regulations by which we all must abide, without having to consult with Congress first.)

Congress has stood idly by while Obama has stripped them of the power that rightfully belongs to Congress. Congress has the power to stop him in his tracks.

And let the Constitution be damned if it gets in his way.

Betty we are already there and nobody seems too concerned. Congress can put an end to his unconstitutional actions any time they feel like it. They just don't have the courage or the conviction.

And he has legions of enablers and crony codependents, inside and outside of government, to help him succeed in the implementation of this new model of American government.

He has 535 enablers. They are called congressmen and Senators. They don't seem too concerned about it and we keep electing these clowns.

Secondly, most definitely, Obama is a quintessential example of narcissist personality. I agree with you there. But in comparison, how on earth have you come to identify Romney as a narcissist?

He believes that someday he will be a God of a planet like Earth. He believes he will someday be equal to God in Glory. You cannot get more narcissistic than that.

I think you may be living in some kind of strange fantasy land, or second reality.

Betty I am a long time student of history. We will not see change of any kind until the people are ready to literally overturn the establishment. Both Romney and Obama represent the establishment. They are both slaves to the God of crony money politics. Obama is a crony socialist and Romney is a crony corporatist. Neither system of government was envisioned when the Constitution was established.

It appears that you and your friends are people who cannot be reasoned with.

Did you ever stop to think that perhaps it is you that is having trouble seeing reason?

Notwithstanding, your vote for Virgil Goode is effectively a vote for Obama.

No, a vote for Virgil Goode is a vote for what Virgil Goode stands for. Whether the American People are ready to have the kind of government that Virgil Goode represents is the choice of the American People is a question that is up to them.

I have only one vote to cast in this election. I have been given the sacred honor of casting my lone vote for someone who shares the values that God has given to me and I don't have to answer to you or the American People or the Republican party when I stand before God and have to give an accounting of my life. God will certainly not hold it against me that I voted FOR a man of Christian principles and convictions and a man who shares my values and my vision for the nation.

You and your FRiends may hold it against me, but then you are not God and no matter what Romney or his Prophet says, you will never be God and neither will he.

King Obama may learn a great lesson through impeachment.

Well I certainly hope so. That would really be great, not to mention his just desserts.

But WHO will step up to the line to impeach him???

Once upon a time, Free Republic stepped up to the line to impeach Clinton for malfeasance in office. How did that work out???

To even try to impeach Obama would brand the would-be impeacher as an unreconstructed RACIST of KKK stripe.

The first thing that would happen to such a person is that his "case" would immediately come to the attention of the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security, not to mention the tender mercies of the IRS....

For evidence, please see what has happened very recently to a private donor, a Mr. Vandersloot, who had the temerity to donate $1 million dollars to the Romney campaign, and in consequence was put on Obama's enemies list, and has had every detail of his private life exposed and demonized by the Obama people.... Through so-called "legitimate" mainstream news sources.

Under the Obama Administration, dissenters are always punished. Friends are always rewarded.

Case in point: The Keystone Pipeline. Obama doesn't like it. I wonder, does that have anything to do with the fact the Warren Buffet bought a railroad in recent times, that traverses the same route that the pipeline would follow, which is perfectly capable of transporting Canadian hydrocarbons to Texas refineries?

And so Buffet — probably the greatest defender of the federal estate tax of all time — gets enriched by a political decision out of the Obama White House???

Crony capitalism is NOT the American way.... It is not only unseemly, but it is indefensible on Constitutional grounds....

This so-called "president" — who is indubitably illegitimate from the get-go on Article II, Section 1 grounds, but who has plenty of Chicago-style thugs to carry water for him and do his dirty deeds for him (e.g., Eric Holder not to mention his kingpin strategist, David Axelrod) — has plenty of help in inexorably stacking the deck against We the People of the United States of America.

I think the entire idea of the Obama Administration is to get payback for Black chattel slavery.... He's in office to make "Whitey" pay for past transgressions....

If he has to kill the American economy (and way of life) to do that, well, as Lenin said, you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs....

I've said it before, and will say it again: The Obama Administration is a criminal conspiracy against the People of the United States of America. Chicago-style. Does anybody wonder why Obama has located his presidential re-election campaign in Chicago??? And not in Washington, DC???

I gather if no one has impeached him yet, he's not likely to be impeached anytime soon.

And so I think the only way to get rid of him is by means of the ballot box.

But I have a whole lot of friends around here that condemn the man — Romney — who must defeat him (or he cannot be defeated), a man who possibly can defeat him. But they will not sign on to this effort, because for whatever reason, they think Romney is a devil from Hell, and as such, no better than King Obama.

At that point, I just don't know what to say. One cannot reason with unreasonable people.

I'm very sorry for that. But it seems to be the case.

Here’s the page where I got most of my info:

http://www.bchfs.com/angelscove_adoption.html

They are licensed by the state and they adopt to only married couples who have been married at least 3 years. They do not adopt to homosexuals, Illinois does not have homo marriage............yet.

Within the past year or so, Illinois has legislatively decreed “domestic partnerships”, they are not recognized as marriages.

They do not accept tax payer money. They are supported by churches and individual donors.

It appears that you and your friends are people who cannot be reasoned with.

Is that the same as being cajoled into your way of thinking?

Tossing around the term 'Un-American' will get you no points for being 'reasonable' in my book.

It is a way to shut up the other side of the argument, and a True Scotsman would not do that.

So long, rscully

Dang!

Too late again!

Oh well; I'll post stuff anyway!

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8      The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Ain't this just FABULOUS??      More?

Isaiah 3:9   The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b  Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

 1.  But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
 2.  Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
 3.  In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
 4.  For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,  putting them into gloomy dungeons  to be held for judgment;
 5.  if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
 6.  if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
 7.  and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
 8.  (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
 9.  if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
 10.  This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature  and despise authority.   Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
 11.  yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
 12.  But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
 13.  They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

 9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...

He believes that someday he will be a God of a planet like Earth.

And here is the PROOF!

The Doctrine and Covenants

Section 132

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501–7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.

1–6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7–14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15–20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21–25, The strait and narrow way leads to eternal lives; 26–27, The law is given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28–39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation are made to prophets and Saints in all ages; 40–47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48–50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51–57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

16Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in amarriage; but are appointed angels in bheaven, which angels are ministering cservants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.

17For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are aangels of God forever and ever.

18And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that acovenant is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out of the world, because they are not joined by me, saith the Lord, neither by my word; when they are out of the world it cannot be received there, because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory; for my house is a house of order, saith the Lord God.

19And again, verily I say unto you, if a man amarry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and beverlasting covenant, and it is csealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of dpromise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the ekeys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit fthrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—then shall it be written in the Lamb’s gBook of Life, that he shall commit no hmurder whereby to shed innocent iblood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their jexaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the kseeds forever and ever.

20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from aeverlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be bgods, because they have call power, and the angels are subject unto them.

21Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my alaw ye cannot attain to this glory.

22For astrait is the gate, and narrow the bway that leadeth unto the exaltation and continuation of the clives, and few there be that find it, because ye receive me not in the world neither do ye know me.

23But if ye receive me in the world, then shall ye know me, and shall receive your exaltation; that awhere I am ye shall be also.

24This is aeternal lives—to bknow the only wise and true God, and Jesus Christ, whom he hath csent. I am he. Receive ye, therefore, my law.

25aBroad is the gate, and wide the way that leadeth to the bdeaths; and many there are that go in thereat, because they creceive me not, neither do they abide in my law.
