One in five gay/bisexual men in the 21 U.S. cities hardest hit by AIDS have HIV infections -- and nearly half don't know it, a CDC survey finds.
Black gay/bi men and under-30 gay/bi adults are least likely to know of their HIV infections.
The findings show that HIV infection rates remain strikingly high among gay and bisexual men, says Kevin Fenton, MD, PhD, director of the CDC's center for HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STD, and TB prevention.
"The number of new HIV infections each year is increasing among men who have sex with men [MSM], while remaining stable or decreasing in other groups," Fenton said in a statement. "Currently, MSM account for nearly half of the more than 1 million people living with HIV in the United States."
To get these numbers, CDC teams visited bars, dance clubs, and other venues frequented by gay and bisexual men in the 21 cities with the highest number of AIDS cases. They interviewed 8,153 self-identified gay and bisexual men who agreed to undergo HIV testing.
The findings: 19% of the men tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. 28% of black, 18% of Hispanic, and 16% of white men tested positive for HIV. 44% of the men who tested positive for HIV had been unaware of their infection. 59% of black, 46% of Hispanic, and 26% of white men who tested positive for HIV were unaware of their infection. 63% of the HIV-positive men age 18-29 were unaware of their infection.

I have a friend of a friend that had a one time, one night stand during Spring Break in Daytona Beach back in the mid-1990’s that got the gift that keeps on giving. It ended up being a major cause for his divorce. I've wondered if his ex-wife caught the gift? Does she tell whoever she's banging that she may have been exposed to Herpes?

I was just told by an M.D. that the increase in the number of unattached and attractive “hot chicks” that you see is due to the HUGE (and MSM unreported) increase in Herpes infections. Unless they're moral-less sh*tbags, their dating/sex scene consists of banging other Herpes+ men (and women too, for the “Bi” crowd).
One of my friends got it from the husband who was cheating any chance he got...
Lovely girl but always had that awkward moment when she had to explain to boyfriends that she had it,some broke up,some could not handle and broke up later..
She is in a long term relationship with a nice guy now but it took 10 years to find him...
Once you have it, you pretty much screwed. Very sad, especially in a case like you describe.
Always felt sad for her she would try to get them to know her before telling them “i have herpes”...
One time the guy just stood up and left and never came back and she was dating him like 2 months...
For a long time it ruined her life got depressed and all that lovely stuff...
Always wanted kids but it took so long to find mister right that she is to old now...
Nobody ever thinks about the mental damage that results for the innocent party..

Nah she always wanted her own kids,one of those girls that had her life planned out you know the cute husband,the kids the white picket fence etc...
unfortunately it did not work out that way about 4 years ago she was very depressed and we thought a little suicidal,we got her to be the godmother of our first child you know give her a reason for living cheered her up a bit then she met the boyfriend and now its all good...Later..my kids are up....

Bisexuality among Black men, often contracted in prison, is spreading AIDS to Black women. No one wants to talk about it; male on male sex is secret. Black women are ten times more likely to get the disease than White women. It’s a real mess.
Okay no one likes condoms but come on gays, do you want to DIE? And please, stay away from the women.
The new AIDS drugs and too many people being able to get them for free (like anyone in prison) has led to complacency.
The only gay guys I knew very well were older friends of my mother, 1 cheated and the other dumped him because of the risk of HIV. The younger ones don’t think it’s a big deal anymore.
If someone has even a season of one year where they go to parties and clubs and hooks up with whoever they find that night, there is a very high chance that they will end up diseased for the rest of their lives. And our society doesn't try to get that message across to them.
To his credit, Judd Apatow tries to mention some of the consequences of sex in some of his movies. I can name at least two (Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) where the spectre of incurable herpes is raised. It's very unusual for a modern filmmaker to mention real consequences of sexual behavior.
