Evangelicals: Mitt Romney hit right note
Politico ^ | 5/12/2012 | Ginger Gibson

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Evangelical leaders praised Mitt Romney’s speech today at Liberty University, saying that the Mormon candidate was right to acknowledge his religious differences with other Christian voters.

“It was an acknowledgment that the issues that social conservatives and evangelicals care about are important issues to Gov. Romney and as he sees them [as] part of a successful economic platform for the country,” said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins.

Perkins added that there wasn’t anything the presumptive GOP presidential nominee — who many evangelical voters regarded with skepticism during the primary while backing Rick Santorum — should have done differently. And he pointed to the huge opportunity created for Romney by President Barack Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage this week (Romney opposes gay marriage).

“I think he touched on the key issues that are important to social conservatives. He mentioned Rick Santorum and Rick’s emphasis and the need to have the family and the ties to economic success.” (See also: 10 essential facts about Liberty U.)

Regarding Romney’s acknowledgement that Mormonism differs from other Christian faiths in certain ways, Perkins said the candidate was correct to tackle the issue.

“That was what he needed to do, was to acknowledge that there are theological differences between him and evangelicals,” Perkins said.

I am not saying anything other than that I cannot judge who is a Christian." Can you?

Why don't you just join the Mormon Church? Do you believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that the Book of Mormon is true and that the LDS Church is the ONLY TRUE CHURCH on the face of the Earth and that if you become a good Mormon that you too can be a God just like your Heavenly Father?

Can you tell me that someone who believes that they will someday be exalted to be a GOD is a Christian?

Is that compatible with your version of Christianity?

Do you have a brain?

If so then you are qualified to judge because God has commanded you to make judgments.

John 7:24
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

"A lot of Christians don’t consider the Catholic church Christian either. "

Ridiculous.

Judging seems to be your obsession, Christians from various Christian denominations talking about a non-Christian religion, and you start posting at them with your aggressive judgment and self righteous, judgmental admonishing.

To what end? Evidently something to do with Mormonism, or anti-Christian bigotry.

If you can’t judge anything, how in the world do you choose a religion of your own and have any conviction that it’s right? If you can’t make judgements, how do you get along in life? You make judgements every single dsy.

Someone should remind him that the RC church was the only thing that stood between Paganism/Islam and the utter eradication of Christianity for a thousand or so years. To think that the Catholic faith could be ‘unchristian’ takes a special kind of self delusion.

Christianity as we know it today (if at all) would not exist without the Catholic church. And I say that as a lapsed Catholic.

This is such a curious discussion. How many of the words of the Bible do you have to follow to consider yourself a Christian? If all, then how can there be different faiths? If not all, then which are not needed? Which denominations are Christians? Lutherans? Episcopalians? Christian Scientists? Jehovah’s Witnesses? Rastifarians? Is it sufficient to confess the Christ to consider yourself Christian? Or do you have to confess a specific Christ? How specific does it have to be? Who keeps the canonical list of Christian faiths?

What a curious post, it seems that you would have addressed it to the many posters who are discussing the topics you raised, the posters discussing the theological questions that you seem curious about.
My post 73 is related to a portion of your question, I don’t think that you are reading the thread.

See my prior posts. Among other posters who have explained it repeatedly. Core beliefs. You believe the same thing and it unites you under a common banner. Little details are irrelevant.

But believing you will one day be a God is not consistent with any of the denominations you mentioned. It is a core belief apart by orders of magnitude.

The Devil days something similar. Should we consider Satanists Christian too? Yes or no please.

I said when Newt had a chance that I would not vote for Romney. But after suffering with Obama, I’m going to find that very hard to stick with. Obama is a disaster and while I wish there was another guy running against him, it is going to be Romney, and I don’t think I have a good choice, but to vote for him.

Unless someone accepts the sacrfice of Jesus Christ they are not christian. It is not complicated or hard to figure out. You either are or you aren’t a christian.

There seem to be an increasing number of threads where mormons and their supporters scream “BIGOT!” like a liberal any time someone makes a factual comment that paints their belief choice in a bad light. I wonder why that could be....

I don’t have a “common worldview” with an abortion-enabler and homosexual lover.

Obama is all that and worse, which is why he must be defeated with whoever is the Republican nominee. I expect Romney will surprise and disappoint some on this site; surprise if he governs more conservatively than they expected and disappoint when they turn out to be wrong, again.

Me, I'll settle for removing Obama and his cult from power.

"Mormons ARE NOT Christians"
I'm surprised that you think you are qualified to judge this. Most of us sinners are not.

We are ALL sinners, who have fallen short of the Glory of God. However RetiredArmy provided plenty of true Biblical proof in his outstanding post #6 as to whether or not followers of the Mormon cult are in fact Christians.

Mormon theology is a perversion of the Christian faith. It denies the Divinity of Christ, it denies the Eternal Perfect Nature of Almighty God, it preaches salvation through works, it teaches that Jesus and Satan were 'brothers'. It promotes the blasphemous idea that the Word of God was incomplete, and needed the illustrious Mr. Smith to create the 'Book of Mormon' to tidy things up.

Uh uh.

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book."
~ Revelation 22:18

Any person, institution, philosophy or ideology which promotes the idea that Jesus Christ is anything less than what He said He is, is my spiritual adversary, for Jesus said "NO one cometh unto the Father except by Me".

Well Norm my FRiend, I suspect it is a classic kneejerk reaction, when one is heavily invested in ANY sort of cult, criticism from the outside is going to be received with great agitation, fury and (as I mentioned in my #113) bullsh*t, lol

So you are hoping the Governor presidential candidate, is totally different than when he was a Governor and that once he announced for President at age 59, that he really did reverse his entire life of belief’s and politics, and activism, all just in time to run for the GOP president slot and ask for your support.

That is quite a candidate for someone to be enthusiastic about.

Regarding Romney’s acknowledgement that Mormonism differs from other Christian faiths in certain ways, Perkins said the candidate was correct to tackle the issue.

SATANism differs in certain ways as well.

The issue was NOT 'tackled', but shunted aside.
