Evangelicals: Mitt Romney hit right note
Politico ^ | 5/12/2012 | Ginger Gibson

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Evangelical leaders praised Mitt Romney’s speech today at Liberty University, saying that the Mormon candidate was right to acknowledge his religious differences with other Christian voters.

“It was an acknowledgment that the issues that social conservatives and evangelicals care about are important issues to Gov. Romney and as he sees them [as] part of a successful economic platform for the country,” said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins.

Perkins added that there wasn’t anything the presumptive GOP presidential nominee — who many evangelical voters regarded with skepticism during the primary while backing Rick Santorum — should have done differently. And he pointed to the huge opportunity created for Romney by President Barack Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage this week (Romney opposes gay marriage).

“I think he touched on the key issues that are important to social conservatives. He mentioned Rick Santorum and Rick’s emphasis and the need to have the family and the ties to economic success.” (See also: 10 essential facts about Liberty U.)

Regarding Romney’s acknowledgement that Mormonism differs from other Christian faiths in certain ways, Perkins said the candidate was correct to tackle the issue.

“That was what he needed to do, was to acknowledge that there are theological differences between him and evangelicals,” Perkins said.

You actually believe that Mormons think the Cross is stupid?

Did I say that?

But MORONI, elevated high above the land, preaching a false doctrine about a false christ?

Now THAT is stupid!

Maybe you should read what you post before you cut and paste it from anti-mormon sites.

Huh?

There is nothing on #300 like this, and I daresay most everything I post comes from Official MORMON Sources.

If you have any PROOF that it doesn't; I'm sure you'll be posting it; right?

Here is my own witness, as an LDS, norway.

Do you have another link? One that shows My Witness for MORMONism?

I often wonder why the passion for spending time on us when they could be doing good and building their churches.

Sigh...

It's because METHODISTs and BAPTISTs are not enmeshed in a heretical relious organization that makes the claim that Jesus Christ of Nazareth's atonement will NOT cover all of man's sin.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

MormonISM adds:

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.
He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon.
He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood.
As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.
Who has made this so?
Have I?
Have this people?
Have the world?
No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.
If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.
If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.
Can you pass without his inspection?
No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.
In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.
They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?
They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?
 Brigham Young,

--JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, vol. 8, p. 224

In Mormonism, Heavenly Mother or the Mother in Heaven is the mother of human spirits and the wife of God the Father.

Sure does say the right things to win governorship in one of the most liberal (gay friendly) states in the union when he is a newborn socialist liberal.

Yes, that's it ... we can trust him because he was REALLY lying up until the moment he ran for the Republican nomination.

Oh, and then there were those awkward moments when he talks off script, you know the defense of the Individual Mandate and the comments on indexing minimum wage to inflation, but please pay no attention to the man behind the curtain ...

You miss a very important thing which the LDS speaker was trying to make. Jesus only saves repentent sinners. So, your big discovery is not much. It requires an act on our part.

Exacctly.

And, our Savior Himself said, “If ye love me, keep my commandmnets.” (John 14:15)

And John said, “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (I John 2:3-4)

So, once we accept Christ, if it is a true conversion and acceptance in our hearts, then we will strive to live and keep His commandments.

A lot of people try and call that “works,” that somehow someone doing that is trying to “work” there way to heaven....nothing could be further from the truth.

Those “works” are simply keeping the commandments as He commanded, and are what James spoke of when he said that faith without works is dead.

Jeff, what did Jesus tell the Jewish leaders was the work that God commands? ... And do you keep all of the ten commandments, without failing on a single one?

Your practiced deceptions are not hidden from those who have studied MormonISM and the LDS inc methods for deceiving people. Did you even read the quotes I posted for you? Can you even acknowledge your deceit, so evident when you mischaracterize opposition to the ISM as hating the adherents? Your purposed effort to conflate what Jesus told the leaders in His day was the work God commands for salvation and hinting/inveigling that God demands you keep the Ten Commandments in order to be worthy of salvation, well, you're practicing deception to defend the ISM, not to hold up Christianity as The Way. Mormonism is demonically inspired.

No deception whatsoever MHG, I simply quoted the Bible. You are free to read it and interpret it however you wish. When Christ says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” and the Apostle John says what he says, we take them at face value, and I believe they are pretty straight forward.

Then we look to the scriptures and the words of Christ to see what He commanded...like in the Sermon on the Mount and elsewhere throughout the New Testament, and of course for us, during His appearances to Prophets in the Americas and His visit there after His resurrection, and of course the scripture we have as a result of the Restoration of His Church.

Then we try and do so...and of course we are not perfect at it. That’s the whole point. He has suffered for and paid already for our mistakes, but it is clear from His words, that we will try and it will be as a result of the conviction of our hearts. Then He will judge us accordingly...which judgement I look forward to.

We do not believe those particular things over-ride Chirst’s atonmement in the least. Withtout His saving grace they are meaningless. But if we accept Him, then He himself says that apparently the conviction resulting from that conversion in our hearts, and our love for Him will lead us to “keep His commandments.”

That is not deceptive. That is not a conspiracy. That is the simple truth.

As to your volumous (and others) postings about the LDS Faith...we have discussed those at length in the past. The vast majority of them come from the Journal of Discourses and other places which has not been cannonized and officially recognized as scripture by the Church.

The men who are called as Apostles and Prophets are not perfect, anymore than the ones called in the Old and New Testament were and their is ample evidence in the scriptures themselves of this. They speak their own mind...and we should listen and glean the truth for us according to the Holy Ghost. But when it is “scripture,” as I have discussed with you before, there is a set process through which our leaders go in order to define it and announce it as such to the members of the Church and to the world.

I do not need to, or intend to, rehash that again with you and the other “flying Inmans.” My discussion with Goreknowshowtocheat had nothing to do with that, and you are injecting yourself into our conversation to raise issues which you already know my answers to...you just don’t like the answers.

I was simply discussing the matter of keeping Christ’s commandments with Goreknowshowtocheat. Apparently you take issue with those comments...and that is fine.

But I was talking to Goreknowshowtocheat and we will continue our conversation, your misgivings and...no disrespect intended...but what I consider to be your railings, notwithstanding.

Hope you had a GREAT Mother’s Day, you and yours, and that the Peace of Christ was with you there.

Since repentent sinners are the only ones covered by the atonement of Christ, please explain how a person repents of rape or murder? I do not know in the afterlife what might be forgiven, but repenting of murder or rape is difficult because restitution, part of repentence, is not possible. How does one restore to life his victim or restore viginity to someone raped? I will be interested in how that happens.

Journal of Discourses not canonized ... hmmm, another effort to deceive readers, Jeff. You should be ashamed at such tactics but you were taught them as a young man so we understand your habitual use of them without even recognizing your deceits.

Here's something from LDS inc regarding The Journal of Discourses you're trying to dismiss as 'non-canonized':

“The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every number (issue) as it comes forth.“ (President George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 8.)

“Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives their children’s children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life .” (Apostle Orson Pratt, Preface. Volume 3.)

“It is impossible to give monetary value to the past volumes of this publication, … Those who read the utterances of the servants of God, contained in this book, under the same influence by which the speakers were inspired, cannot fail to receive profit from the perusal.” (President Joseph F. Smith, Preface, Volume 18.)

“We take great pleasure in presenting to the Saints and the world the … the Journal of Discourses, which they will find contains rich treasures of information concerning the glorious principles of Eternal Life, as revealed through God’s anointed servants in these last days. All who read the discourses contained in this Volume are earnestly recommended to adapt them to their lives by practice, and we can confidently assure them that, in doing so, they are laying up a store of knowledge that will save and exalt them in the Celestial kingdom.” (Apostle Albert Carrington, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 15.)

Jeff, either you agree with the heresies contained in your religion's Journal of Discourses or you do not. But to try and deceive readers by telling us these are not canonized is a deceitful dodge and I think you know it. I see you also dodged what Jesus said to the Jewish leaders regarding what God commands for salvation, to believe on He Whom God has sent ... and Jesus did not add any of the smithian crap your religion adds to the means for salvation. He was speaking 'on the record' Jeff. How is it that MormonISM then adds to His teaching that which was thought up from the mind of a peepstone conman sexual predator of married women?
