I don’t think he said it. He seemed to be in complete control of what he was saying. It wasn’t an exclamation said without thinking. I doubt that he’d say it in that situation.

So what do you think he did say? The sentence definitely started with "I gotta get my...". What followed was certainly some word that started with "sh..". Any suggestions as to what it might have been if not the one that's being suggested?

BTW, anyone who uses such language on a regular basis wouldn't necessarily say it with any exclamation. Notice how teenagers (and many adults) use the F-word as a universal adjective without any particular exclamation. It's just part of their everyday vocabulary.

All I hear clearly is “I gotta get my...” There might be a hint of a ‘s’, but I don’t hear a ‘sh’, and I’m not even sure of the ‘s’. He might have said ‘stuff’ or some other short word (probably one syllable but possibly two). By the way, what was it he got? Was it the award?

I realize that people don’t just use that word as an exclamation, but politicians aren’t likely to use it in front of a public group except in situations in which they say something quickly and without thinking (because of the kind of criticism that he’s getting here).

As one of the persons commenting previously said, we’ve got plenty to criticize Obama for without this. I wouldn’t mind adding this to the list if I believed he said it (and if the evidence were there), but I don’t.
