It begins: Catholic university drops all health-insurance coverage in response to HHS mandate

Actually, it’s not just the mandate, but also the costs that will drive Franciscan University to bail out of the health-insurance business. Before now, the Catholic institution required all students to carry health insurance; those who did not have them were required to buy insurance through the school. That’s not entirely dissimilar to the ObamaCare mandate, although of course attendance at the school is entirely voluntary.

Franciscan University put the HHS contraception mandate as its first justification, however:

What choice did the Satan-inspired ObamaCare give to CATHOLIC institutions?

Glad to see the school's faith.

Ahhh, so this was the REAL reason Obama pushed mandatory contraceptives.. To force Catholic and other religious schools to drop health coverage. How ‘Alinsky’ of Obama. Who’s brainstorming this crap, Bill Ayers or George Soros?

This is absolutely a HHS casualty: Steubenville could not offer the endoctrine disruptor/sexual disabler/embryotoxin package under any circumstances, so they'll stop offering insurance altogether, and pay the goddamned fine.

Are they cutting off faculty and staff insurance, too? Or just students?

A Franciscan University employee blasted the Obama administration and the HHS mandate in an essay at Catholic Vote:
In short: We. Will. Not. Comply. And our students are the first one who will feel the pinch.
Those who are left high and dry by the administration’s intrusion into our freedom to practice our faith are our students. Who knows how many will have insurance, how many will not, how many will have insurance of the quality we offered before, how many will be able to stay on their parents’ insurance through the extended adolescence provision of Obamacare, etc.
But there you have it: thanks to the government’s firm desire to make sure the one or two women left in the country who did not have easy and cheap access to contraceptives, abortofacients [sic], and sterilization procedures, our 2,500 students will no longer have an insurance plan ready and waiting for them.

Problem is, once major institutions and corporations drop health coverage they won’t revert back to offering it. The progressives will continue to shout from the rooftops, ‘Something must be done about health care.. Single payer system!’ Just like the housing crisis, THE LIBERALS CAUSED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Heroes from my hometown! Hooray for Franciscan!

(I guess I'll stop thinking of them as "Steubie U" sometime soon.)

the non insured have no reason to BE insured. Catastrophic care is taken care of by the insured (our family, dopey enough to work for living) pay very high cost becouse of those who won’t pay hundreds per month.

When thye need meds then they think about it but then it’ss too late. That’s what they do without.

The teachers’ salaries at Fransican might go up and there again is the cost of tuition.

Anyway OB’s idaea is to destroy and . . . look.

Maybe he’ll just fall out of campaigning when it gets even uglier for him and into full scale destroy sooner rather than after the election.

Whatever.

One of the answers is for us to take care of our own health a whole lot better than we, as a culture, have done since the advent of insurance.

Talk to someone old enough to know what that was like.

they ate right and harly took any meds.

It is a fact.

They sure weren’t fat.

Watch an old film then watch a new tv show pushing acceptance of obesity.

Moochelle is wrong, anyway. iT’s not about tellin geveryone what to do it’s about taking care of one’s self and family - and that does NOT mean frivolous and fabulous vacations. It means basics.

Rant

Thus playing into the hands of the Kenyan by making Obamacare more necessary for the now uninsured employees.

A tougher strategy would be to announce that as of September 1, 2012 (the start of the school year) no catholic school or catholic hospital would be open. All students would be flooding the public schools or secular colleges and all patients would be moved or directed to other hospitals. Good luck meeting that need no matter who is covering the insurance.
