Reagan turned away from the Democrats in the 1940s, there was a lot of history between that far away time, and Mitt Romney being anti-Reagan after decades of the battle lines being drawn and bloody battles between conservatism and liberalism being fought during the 60s and the abortion wars, and the swath of history known as “The Reagan Years”, yet there was Mitt, fundraising for Democrats and voting for Paul Tsongas for President.
Mitt’s own father had been a Republican candidate for President, his mother for the Senate, Mitt had stormed off the Republican convention floor with his father, protesting against Goldwater and conservatism in 1964.
Telling us that Reagan had been a democrat, long ago, in an ancient and different America before he spent 40 years in the trenches, fighting hand to hand and becoming a conservative hero and changing the nation and the history of the world, doesn’t have any relevance, except for the fact that he could not penetrate Mitt Romney’s hatred for middle America, and conservatism, Mitt actually moved further left as Reagan and then HW Bush governed.
