(CBS News) SANFORD, Fla., - The trial of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer charged with murdering Trayvon Martin is still months away, but the investigation continues.
CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann has come up with new information about what happened that February night when Zimmerman shot the unarmed teenager in a gated community in Sanford, Florida.
At the heart of this case is what happened of the course of 90 seconds: from the moment Zimmerman hung up with a non-emergency dispatcher -- to the first 911 call from a neighbor.
Wednesday new details emerged from sources close to the investigation. A responder at the crime scene told CBS News that he and others saw wounds on the knuckles of one of Martin's hands as he lay dead on this lawn, suggesting Martin had thrown a punch.
Zimmerman told police he fired the shot at point blank range while on his back, as the 17-year-old straddled him.
He also told investigators Martin did not die immediately but mumbled either "it's over" or "you got me."

The mentality suggesting that you can physically attack anyone who “disses” or upsets you started this mess.
It’s OOOOOOOOVER.......que Roy Orbison.

Hunting is much less fun when the rabbit has a gun...
It may be the trajectory that’s going to solve this for us. My thought is that Tray pulled back and Zimmerman took that moment to get the shot off. That would put Tray’s chest within the distance mentioned in that article I posted.
Yeah, I saw the "intermediate distance" thread after I posted to this one.
In that thread, they talked about how clothing that's penetrated by the bullet will stop much of the propellant residue from contacting the skin. We know only too well that Travon was wearing a hoodie. I got the impression that multiple layers of clothing would yield a lot of info to a ballistics expert. I'm sure that will come out in court.
I also expect Trayvon's family to hire an African-American ballistics expert who will say that the bullet and powder-burn evidence indicates that Trayvon was shot from a distance of five or six feet while Mr. Zimmerman stood over him screaming racial epithets, and that Trayvon begged for his life and told Zimmerman "Jesus loves you."
Gunpowder burns are PDC---Pretty darn close.
Well, it's not.
Trayvon Martin suffered 8 injuries.. (on his knuckles)
The idea that the president would promote this reverse racism is absolutely disgusting.
Based on the fact that the KelTec did not chamber another round, I think the gun was either jammed between the two or Trayvon had his hand on the slide.
But the media reported one...1/4” long.
There needs to be a warning at the top of all Zimmerman threads:
WARNING: All material presented to the media is not based on actual evidence or facts to be used in the case. Martin’s lawyer is not involved in the case. His only purpose is to continue the race baiting adgenda.
Seems pretty clear what happened here. Zimmerman’s story seems accurate; he was defending himself.
No joy in a 17 year kid dying however; but the kid made a fatal choice.
Sickening to see his parent(s?) turning this into a meal card.
Plus one small round one.
It’s the sharpton/jackson way don’tchaknow. Race bait then exploit the racial divide you’re jacking open. Little barry bastard commie does it too, and Eric ‘Just Us’ Holder to be sure.

To quote nobama, “make the best of a good opportunity”.
Are you serious?
I take great joy in learning of the deaths of these kinds of slugs. It brings peace of mind, knowing that I, or my family, won't ever have to come up against them.
My only sadness is that there aren't at least a 1,000 such deaths each day, seven days a week.
