The text editor of the 1991 literary agency booklet that described Barack Obama as “born in Kenya” said Thursday the line in question was “nothing more than a fact checking error.”

Miriam Goderich issued a statement to the Political Wire saying the future president never suggested “in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii”:

“You’re undoubtedly aware of the brouhaha stirred up by Breitbart about the erroneous statement in a client list Acton & Dystel published in 1991 (for circulation within the publishing industry only) that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me — an agency assistant at the time. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.”

any published author will tell you, the author sends in the initial bio stuff...and undoubtedly checks it many times over before it is final!!!

As a former reporter I notice the 5Ws of Journalism are again, as always, absent from the Picture.

WHO told you he was from Kenya to begin with?
WHAT is your process for fact checking things you publish?
WHERE did the information that led you to publish his Kenyan birthplace come from?
WHEN were you informed of such?
WHY do you believe now that this was an error and can you produce any prior retraction?

Can ANY actual journalist currently working in the media please step up and ask these questions?
