GM won't advertise in the 2013 Super Bowl

General Motors will not advertise during this year's Super Bowl game, the automaker said Friday.

It's a big change for GM which had returned to Super Bowl advertising after sitting out 2009 and 2010 as the automaker recovered from economic disaster and bankruptcy. GM executives have said that ads during the game were very effective.

Advertisers paid an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second ad during last year's Super Bowl, which was broadcast by NBC. Next year's game will be broadcast by CBS.

"We understand the reach the Super Bowl provides, but with the increased price, we can't justify the expense," GM spokesman Pat Morrissey said.

Morrissey would not say how much CBS was asking but he said it was more than was demanded last year. CBS did not immediately return a call asking for comment.

First they cut the Facebook ads because they “didn’t work” (their competitors are benefiting from their Facebook ads). Now, they cut another major expense. I think we can see the writing on the wall here regarding GM.

Let me guess the real reason - because it would come too late to be used as “free advertising” in the Obama election campaign?

How much do I win?

China wouldn’t let them.

Sighing, they are wearing our their welcome in Brazil apparently:

Ford, GM and BMW linked to illegal logging and slave labour in Brazil

Snip:Reports over the past decade from the Brazilian government, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the US Department of Labour have indicated that charcoal used by many pig iron suppliers in the Amazonian state of Pará was obtained through forced labour and illegal logging of protected and indigenous lands.

Who’s engaged to play in halftime, Bill Haley’s Comets? It’s the right demographic.

GM sells twice as many cars in China per month than in the USA. That is their future and that's where they will advertise.

We are stuck supporting the unionist-owned Government Motors and I wouldn't drive one of those monstrosities if someone gave it to me free.

The union types are going to have to do the heavy lifting and sign the contracts to purchase these cars.

They’ll just have to find another audience to lie to about their reliability record.

Since the new Chevy SS is going to be made by Holden in Australia by Australians, they’ll probably want to advertise during soccer games. Football it too American for GM.

I got news for you GM. You’ll be under new management by the time the next Super Bowl rolls around so just hold off awhile on these decisions.

I'm that demographic and listening to Bill Haley's Comets would be torture to me.
