Perhaps you haven't been paying attention. When's the last time anyone in the media mentioned the birther issue? It's been what, about a year and a half now hasn't it?

If this topic is as irrelevant as you say, why do you hang out at forums such as these? There are plenty of other discussions going on at FR. Surely you could find one you find worthy.

Perhaps the better question is...When's the last time anyone in the media didn't mention the birther issue?
Or perhaps you've missed how well watched/observed the latest story about the unearthed literary biography has been. It seems that everybody in "the media" had a comment, even if it was to paint it as "nothing to see here".
Despite the issue always being "on the sideline" it's also always been continually mentioned.
Perhaps it's you who hasn't been paying attention.
