Obviously Zimmerman and Martin meet up eventually, but exactly how that happened we don't know. The understanding with the dispatcher was that the police would call Zimmerman to find out where he was when they arrived. Zimmerman: "Actually could you have them call me and I'll tell them where I'm at?" Dispatcher: "Okay, yeah that's no problem." Zimmerman wasn't expected to stay in the same place, and he was free to move around.

Martin knew that Zimmerman had been following him previously, so when they met later that could have led to the conversation reported by Martin's girlfriend. Martin: ""What are you following me for?" Zimmerman: "What are you doing here?" I can see Martin being annoyed, but that doesn't justify an attack. His attack on Zimmerman was the criminal act that caused him to be shot -- in self defense, as the injuries to Zimmerman indicate.

What I don't understand is why are they giving so much credence to the girlfriend;s conversation.

There was no recording and she is giving much detail about
how this all went down.

here is a link to the testimomy by her

At any rate, the "What are you following me for?" if it occurred, could not have happened before the time that Zimmerman reported Martin to have disappeared, which was subsequent to the "we don't need you to do that." Besides, if it did occur, it demonstrates that it was Martin who returned to Zimmerman and confronted him, leading to everything else that followed.

Gee, if Martin had only gone back to his father's girlfriend's house once he got out of Zimmerman's sight none of this would have happened. And maybe seeing a shorter, pudgy-looking guy armed with a cell phone was enough to encourage Martin to get all up in his grille. Oops. Some people, often the young, don't know when to leave well-enough alone. I wonder if there's some kind of metric that would correlate the likelihood of a bad outcome with the propensity of wanting to have the last word or not standing down.
