The Catholic church will overlook anything if you have the financial means or celebrity. Wrong. The Church can't judge what's in someone's heart at the time of his or her death, even in suicide. She leaves that to God, the Judge of All, and prays for the soul of the deceased.

It wasn't always the case that the Church wouldn't “judge.” When I was a kid, a suicide was denied burial in a Catholic cemetery. F. Scott Fitzgerald was not allowed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery in 1940 (or ‘41) because his books were proscribed. They used to be extremely tough and judgemental.
