Zimmerman murder case looks like long shot
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | May 19, 2012 | Beth Kassab

Unless Angela Corey has something she's not telling us, her second-degree-murder case against George Zimmerman is looking more and more like a long shot.

The special prosecutor assigned to investigate the death of Trayvon Martin released hundreds of pages of evidence last week.

But any expectation of a bombshell to explain her reason for filing a murder charge — which comes with a much higher burden of proof than a manslaughter charge — was short-lived.

The documents failed to answer the case's biggest questions: Who started the fight between Zimmerman and Trayvon? And whose voice was heard screaming for help on a 911 call?

None of the witnesses saw the entire confrontation between the two, or who threw the first punch.

The evidence does, however, support Zimmerman's claim that he was assaulted by Trayvon — whether Zimmerman started it or not.

Photos of Zimmerman's bloodied head and swollen nose show he was injured.

On the other hand, Trayvon's autopsy report showed no sign of bruising or other injuries that would indicate he was punched by the Neighborhood Watch leader.

That only further serves to bolster Zimmerman's claim that Trayvon went after him and that he shot Trayvon in self-defense.

It can't be good for Corey when her discovery documents appear to strengthen the defendant's case more than her own.

The best piece of evidence for the prosecutor is something we already knew but was explicitly stated in a Sanford police report: Trayvon's death was "ultimately avoidable" if Zimmerman had stayed in his vehicle and waited for law enforcement to arrive....

>>Nope, that won't work. Z was not standing... he was on the ground. His only shot is if Floriduh has a “lying on the ground getting the snot punched out of you, your nose broken, bloody head, and coming close to being killed” law.
<<

The “Stand Your Ground” reference to FL’s self-defense law is somewhat misleading. “Stand Your Ground” is only part of the law. If Zimmerman can get vindicated by the judge in a hearing before a jury verdict, then no civil suits against him (or the city, or the homeowners’ association, etc.) are possible. And the standard in that hearing is just a preponderance of the evidence, not beyond a reasonable doubt. That's why the self-defense hearing is so important.

Actually it was a short shot, probably less than 1 ft.

It’s not being “psychic” to see someone who acts like they are under the influence of drugs.

Here is Saint Trayvon at the 7-11.

http://www.wftv.com/videos/news/surveillance-trayvon-martin-at-store-night-of/vHLg7/

I’ve seen lots of people stoned and have known quite a few heavy users.

Here we see Saint Trayvon bouncing back and forth off the counter and rocking from side to side. At one point he uses one arm to prop himself up on the counter. He is constantly shifting back and forth.

He takes a long time to pay and he can’t quite figure out quickly how to pick out the right coins from his palm.

When he is finished paying he wanders off in the wrong direction for a while before figuring out which way the entrance is.

Saint Trayvon lookee like he bin smokee da weed....

The idea that Trayvon Martin assaulted Zimmerman because Zimmerman was interferring with his casing of homes for burglary, is one I have long suspected. It was like Martin was teaching Zimmerman a lesson for watching him. Because Trayvon’s dad had given him an inside pass into the gated community, it made for a big advantage for a burglar. People in gated communities tend to relax their precautions in keeping doors locked and more than likely had expensive things to steal. Zimmerman, high on pot, must have felt like he was a kid in a candy store.

The clerk at the store who took Trayvon’s money may have observations of his behavior that would be clues to his mental state. The appearance of him in the video indicates to me that he was high.

Yes, from 1 to 18 inches according to the autopsy. I read another forensics report (based upon examination of Martin’s clothing) that it was a contact shot. So I’m with you, almost certainly less than 1 foot, perhaps significantly so.

(I think you mean Trayvon, not Zimmerman)

Actually, this particular gated community was on edge because of numerous recent burglaries, including one when the wife and child were at home.

By any objective measure, it was not an affluent area. The condos had lost more than half of their value, with several being bank owned. You can see them if you google 1111 Retreat View Circle (the clubhouse address), Sanford, FL. Looking at zillow, the sizes are 1,200-1,500 square feet with only one car garages, not what most people would describe as affluent, but still worthy of breaking and entering to someone who needed money for his pot.

What is does do is impair one's judgment.

Someone who is high may decide to do something they would think twice about if they were fully sober.

If someone is walking around trying to hold himself out as a "gangsta" then maybe if he is high he might do something like take a swing at a bus driver that if he were sober he would think to himself, you know maybe this is not the right time or place to show out as a "gangsta". (recall the tweet "you ain't tell me you swung on a bus driver")

If he was high and on the phone to some girl maybe he decides to impress her by acting the "gangsta" by jumping some short hispanic guy who dares to ask him what he is doing in the neighborhood.

That way the girl can spread the story back home about how the No_Limit_Nigga gave a beat-down to some hispanic guy, giving him some gangsta cred.

However, if he was sober maybe he thinks that's not such a smart plan.

You have a big imagination.

Those on the streets don’t need to be high to sucker punch your lights out...Just for giggles. Later when they get high, they have a good ol’ belly laugh recalling how they took turns stomping on your face before looting your pockets.

I don’t know why you think it’s such a stretch that Saint Trayvon was high that night.

It was really a perfect time for him to get high.

His dad was out for a night on the town with his girlfriend.

Here Saint Trayvon is, stuck in his dad’s girlfriend’s townhouse with her 12-year-old son.

His friends are back in Miami probably watching the NBA All-Star game, joking around and getting high and having a good time.

Saint Trayvon was probably feeling sorry for himself and decided to get a good buzz on.

It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to see that. We know the kid liked to smoke weed.

Thanks for the link Traveler59—it brought back some good memories. It was in the wake of the Duke Lacrosse case that I first became TRULY convinced of the complete corruption and evil nature of both the main stream media and academia. Rush Limbaugh started my awakening to the truth, but my experiences and observations during the Duke Lacrosse case completed the awakening. I honestly believe that Rush, sites such as Free Republic and blogs such as ones highly active in the Lacrosse case produced the seeds from which the Tea Party movement ultimately grew and continues to grow.

Seeing a self-organizing countering force of decent folk spontaneously rise up in the blogosphere (e.g., on websites such as Liestoppers & Durham-in-Wonderland) renewed my faith in the American people. They showed that such ordinary people (although in my mind they were anything but ordinary), with truth and relentless spirits on their side, could fight back successfully against an establishment attempting the oppression of the Duke Lacrosse players. Their refusal to accept ANY tyranny inspires me to this day. I spent a lot of time on the Liestoppers site during that time. The fundamental decency of folks who I knew only by their “user names” shown through their postings clearly.

I never implied or suggested he wasn't.

Judging by the high percentage of criminals who have it in their bloodstream when arrested, pot is definitely the choice of criminals, I guess criminal types, and the crime of illegal drugs go hand in hand.

Yes, pot increases violence behavior. In the 70s, my girlfriend smoke it, did the big chicken, starting running after cars, jumping on their hoods, attempting to get at the occupants. They found her on my neighbors back porch eating dog food.

Gak~

Then I am not sure what your argument is.

Are you saying that it is NOT true that when people are stoned their judgment is impaired, and they tend to do things they would not do if sober?

That is not imagination, that is a fact.

It is quite plausible that if Trayvon was NOT high then maybe he would have thought twice before swinging on Zimmerman.

Are you claiming that Trayvon was NOT a wannabe “gangsta”?

That is pretty well-established from his web pages, No_Limit_Nigga, the attack on the bus driver, the idolization of C-Murder, the refereeing the street fights, the gold teeth and tats, and so on.

It is a possibility TM smoked a joint on the way to the store. Released police evidence showed he had a lighter in his pocket when he was shot.
