Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney admitted he tried alcohol and cigarettes as a teenager despite Mormon prohibitions against drinking and smoking.

“I tasted a beer and tried a cigarette once as a wayward teenager, and never did it again,” Romney says in an upcoming interview with People magazine.

Romney said that his aversion to drugs and alcohol was “a religious thing.”

Mitt Romney is out to prove he’s not the boring guy depicted by some commentators, and has, in fact, got an edgy side.

The Republican presidential candidate drops a bombshell revelation on voters in the forthcoming issue of People magazine: he once ‘tasted’ a beer and a cigarette.
Despite the Mormon Church’s ban on smoking and drinking, he said in the December 5 issue of the magazine that he tried both as a wayward teenager, according to Politico.com.

Asked if he had ever had a beer, he responded: ‘Never had drinks or tobacco. It’s a religious thing. I tasted a beer and tried a cigarette once, as a wayward teenager, and never did it again.’

The rock ‘n’ roll admission comes hot on the heels of a Saturday Night Live skit named Raw And Unleashed, where Romney, played by Jason Sudeikis, tries to portray himself as a wild and crazy dude.

Your sources give an insight into Romney that is actually quite admirable. Here is a young Willard who has to find out what it is that he should not do. How many of us, when growing up, were told not to do something and that perked our curiosity enough to try it? Willard shows a very human side that many of us can identify with. At the same time, it shows a very disciplined side. Once trying tobacco and alcohol, he never continued. He had enough self-discipline to stay away from them after getting full information about the seductive qualities these two vices represent.

On the other hand, Zer0 had zero self-discipline with a lot of other things: pot, cigarettes, cocaine and even homosexuality. And all these things that Zer0 did (and may still be doing) will come out, it they haven't already.
