Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

The first Mormon I ever met enticed our co-workers to shun me...

and they werent Mormons ...only her..

I didnt know what i was supposed to have done wrong...

She woul;d walk right past me as though I wasnt there...

I was 19 at the time...

and in the last 40 years i cant remeber anyone acting that way towards me since...

But then i never did work with Mormons again...

and in the 7 years I was in the military i never did meett a mormon nor hear of one...

But then I was in during wartime...Vietnam...when deferments were being handed out to Mormon boys like candy...

()h it turned out one of the reasons the Mormon was shunning me was because a friend of mine had invited her to church with us when she came to pick me up...

Thats a big NONO...

Its garlic to a Mormon to be expected to attend a Christian service...

But the bigger reason was because I was a practicing blood bought Christian, and I knew the Bible...)

Sounds to me like she was just a nasty person and whether she was a mormon, jew, christian, seventh day adventist, she’d still be a nasty person. Some of the most God awful mean people I’ve met were from my own spirit filled Christian Churchs, not one church a few of them. I’ve met some wonderful christian people too. But because how petty and shunning Christians have been to others in my entire life of growing up in the church, - I decided my relationship with God had nothing to do with them. I have seen them twist and turn scripture around to acting condemning and without love. However it suits them and I have seen it hurt many people. Because of this, I no longer go to Church. My faith is strong without having to subject myself to an entire congregation of those who I have to weed through to find a few decent and kind individuals. Even on this thread, it reminds me of why I stopped attending church. I do not believe in judging others who proclame to love Jesus. That I believe is between God and them. I have met several Mormons and they have been kinder than many Christians I have known and for that reason, I will defend them on this thread.

This whole not attending a Christian service is so bizarre.
When my sonIL preached for the first time, I asked an lds aunt and uncle who decided for a short time to talk to me after nearly two decades of shunning to attend.
My uncle actually said he had to ask his bishop if it were permitted - the bishop said no, and they did not come.
My youngest daughter asked her lds friend from work to attend a Sunday service after she (my daughter) attended her friend’s service. The friend asked the bishop, and her bishop said yes but only once as reciprocation to my daughter attending the ward.
I just don’t get it. When I visit friends or non lds family I gladly go to their house of worship as they do mine when they visit me, no permission is needed for this to happen.

Deb, no no no. Try citrus infused vodka, in tart lemon aide with a sugared rim. Way, way better than a P&J vodka based drink.

I have assessed Romney by his own history and he is a liberal.

Ooooh, sorry. Wrong answer, but then you're a tad late to the party.

Actually, it was perfect.

Proclaiming Mr. Romney ineligible by virtue of his membership in the offending religion

If someone were to follow the teachings of Hugh Hefner, I'd be suspicious too.

you know what stinkers the Osmonds are

Sad to hear about the death of Marie's son.

There was a Christian fellowship church in the 70_80’s where the parissioners could not take a vacation or apply for a job without permission. There were these.men at a bible study I attended who believed Christian rock was from the devil.

Thank God I know Christ or I’d.be an athiest if I was to place my views on what people say they believe.

I believe Romney has been able to keep his faith separate from his profession

- - - - -
You may believe that but it isn’t the way Mormonism works. Been there, done that and I’ve pinged other ex-Mormons who know that Mormonism is in no way kept separate.

Oh thats been going on in Mormonism since the beginning...

Willard had to ask permission of his Mormon CEO hierarchy to run for POTUS...

The students at BYU the Mormon college are not allowed to surf websites like FRee Republic etc...

and so on...

Very controlled...

...his moral character seems good with me. It is important to look at an individual, assess his personal history (not the history of generations before him), and make an assessment.

#1...please review Romney's ties to profiteering from the porn industry (see post #287, including the link there)...something Marriott has been in going back to at least 1990...and Romney's been a Marriott board member going back to the latter 90s...tho he went off of it in latter o7...came back on...then went off again upon going into campaign mode...

#2...We can't separate "character" from gullibility to deception. Somebody vulnerable to deception -- in an area he deems to be the most important area of his life -- has "carry over" effects...most gravely (potentially) foreign policy.

I hope we are not judging if a particular mormon, catholic, or a christian soul is going after death.

- - - - - -
Mormons are not Christians. Their theology precludes it. It is not any different than to judge any other non-Christian. Christ is the way and what you believe about Christ does matter and does affect if you are a Christian or not.

She is also typical of most Mormons, even me when I was LDS. It is the LDS attitude of superiority. BTW, the only reason Mormons are nice to ‘gentiles’ (all non-Mormons even Jews) is because they want to make ‘the Church’ look good and get you interested in converting.

I can give you a typical conversation of how Mormons lie about their beliefs to outsiders.
